About the Role:
The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is hiring a Marketing Manager to join our Marketing and Production Team. This role is a great opportunity for someone motivated by a mission-driven organization who can amplify the reach of our scholars and their ideas.
You'll report to and work closely with the Director of Marketing and Production and collaborate with program teams, scholars, and designers to develop integrated campaigns and strategies that bring Mercatus's research and talent to the right audiences.
This is a hybrid role in Arlington, VA, requiring two in-office days per week, with occasional additional on-site days based on team projects, events, or organizational priorities.

Responsibilities:
Email Marketing
- Build, test, and schedule email campaigns in our email marketing platform across a range of formats—newsletters, event promotions, and lead generation.
- Develop strategy and leverage segmentation, automation, and A/B testing to improve engagement and support organizational goals.
Event Marketing
- Lead event marketing and promotion campaigns from strategy through execution, coordinating across email, social, and other digital channels to drive registrations and awareness.
Social Media and Content Production
- Partner with our social media lead to develop campaigns that promote Mercatus scholars and their work.
- Contribute platform-specific content, digital assets, and short-form content—including graphics, video clips, and audio excerpts drawn from podcasts and events—ensuring everything is on-brand and optimized for each audience.
Data & Reporting
- Maintain data integrity, build reports, and translate performance metrics into clear, actionable insights for the team and internal stakeholders.
Cross-Team Partnership
- Collaborate with program teams, scholars, and design to plan and execute integrated marketing campaigns.
- Help develop SOPs, templates, and best practices that make it easier for teams across Mercatus to communicate effectively and consistently.
Required
- 3+ years of experience in marketing, communications, events, or digital media
- Strong writing, editing, and content strategy skills
- Experience managing email marketing campaigns and social media accounts
- Comfortable working with data—pulling reports, identifying trends, and making recommendations
- Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment
- Genuine interest in classical liberal ideas, free-market research, and the institutions that allow people and communities to thrive
Preferred
- Experience with email marketing platforms (Marketing Cloud, Mailchimp, or HubSpot)
- Proficiency with social media management tools (Sprout Social or similar)
- Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM systems
- Experience with event management platforms (Cvent or similar)
- Design skills in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience with short-form video production or podcast content
