What the Support Assistant Teacher does:

In coordination with the Classroom, Behavior, and Related Services Staff, the Support Assistant Teacher provides support for the academic and behavior programs. The Support Assistant Teacher also assists in any of the following:

  • Support training for new classroom teacher assistants.
  • Substitute for classroom, behavior, and career staff as needed.
  • Document activities, lessons, and attendance when covering for classroom staff.
  • Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, and hallway transitions.
  • Assist in implementing individual and group behavior management programs.
  • Help implement academic goals and objectives outlined in student IEPs.
  • Provide support during special student events (e.g., parties, field trips, performances, reinforcement programs).
  • Attend team meetings as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with children and/or adolescents with disabilities
  • Strong organizational skills and effective communication skills
