About the role

 

Step into a high-impact role where your deep marine engineering expertise will be fully utilised. This permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week) offers the opportunity to work across ship and shore-based maintenance, repair, and overhaul of critical diesel propulsion systems. You’ll join a collaborative, safety-led team delivering essential engineering services in a technically challenging environment.

 

Working on complex marine machinery, you’ll take ownership of diagnosing faults, executing overhauls, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. With exposure to large-scale systems, drydock activities, and advanced maintenance practices, this role is ideal for someone with strong leadership capability and hands-on experience.   • $46 per hour (trade certificate essential)
  • 1.5x paid after 40hrs
  • 2x paid after 43hrs

About you

 

You are a highly experienced marine engineer with a strong background leading engine room operations and diesel maintenance activities. You bring deep technical expertise across propulsion, auxiliary, hydraulic, and electrical systems, and thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. You are confident diagnosing complex faults, leading teams, and ensuring compliance with safety and maritime standards. You enjoy hands-on work as well as mentoring others, and you take pride in delivering high-quality, reliable engineering outcomes every time.

 

Key Required Skills

 

  • Advanced marine diesel engine overhaul and maintenance
  • Fault diagnosis across mechanical, electrical and control systems
  • Strong knowledge of propulsion and auxiliary equipment
  • Hydraulics, pneumatics, and fluid transfer systems expertise
  • Experience with planned maintenance systems (CMMS)
  • Leadership and team mentoring capability
  • Drydock planning and execution experience
  • Strong safety, compliance, and ISM code knowledge

 

Key Required Qualifications

 

  • Trade Certificate (Level 4) in Engineering or equivalent
  • NZ Class 1 Driver Licence (or ability to obtain)
  • Marine Engineering qualification (management level preferred)
  • STCW or equivalent marine certifications (highly desirable
