About the role As a Registered Nurse within the Acute Permanent Pool, you will have the opportunity to work across a variety of Critical Care environments at Barwon Health. Based on your experience, skills and qualifications, you may choose to work in two or more of the following areas. You will be required to have a post graduate certificate in either Emergency nursing, Intensive Care or Critical Care with the ability to work in either ED and/or ICU plus another Critical Care area. Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Coronary Care Unit / Cardiothoracic Services Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) This role offers diverse clinical exposure, flexibility through self-rostering, and ongoing professional development within a supportive and highly skilled multidisciplinary team. You will be required to work up to 50% weekends and up to 30% night duty, supporting safe and responsive staffing across the service. Key responsibilities Deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care in accordance with professional standards and Barwon Health policies Perform comprehensive clinical assessments and contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to support safe, effective and coordinated care Actively contribute to safety, quality improvement initiatives and incident reporting processes Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using Barwon Health information systems What we’re looking for Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA Critical Care qualification and relevant experience (essential) Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and adapt across multiple high-acuity clinical environments Strong communication, clinical judgement and organisational skills Commitment to Barwon Health values of Respect, Compassion, Commitment, Accountability and Innovation About Central Resource Unit (CRU) CRU manages the Acute Permanent Pool at Barwon Health that is resourced using Registered Nurses, Registered Midwives (+/- dual registration) and Endorsed Enrolled Nurses. CRU provides staffing resources twenty four hours a day, seven days a week across the clinical units of Barwon Health to cover planned and emergent shortfalls within the service. Emergency Department With approximately 80,000 presentations each year, the Emergency Department at University Hospital Geelong provides timely, high-quality care, supported by dedicated adult and paediatric short stay units. Intensive Care Unit Our 24-bed ICU delivers tertiary critical care services to the Barwon South West region, caring for medical, surgical and cardiothoracic patients. The unit is actively involved in research and education, including partnerships with Deakin University. Cardiac Services Bellarine Centre 5 is a 34-bed cardiac service providing comprehensive cardiology and cardiothoracic care, including a 24-hour emergency STEMI service and complex surgical procedures such as bypass grafts, valve repairs and thoracic surgery. Anaesthetics and PACU Operating Services at University Hospital Geelong provides a 24/7 service across ten theatres, supporting a wide range of specialties including cardiothoracic, orthopaedics, general surgery and more.
