At BAE Systems Space & Mission System’s (SMS) Westminster Colorado locations, we develop and produce state-of-the-art RF and sensor technologies that are integrated into tactical solutions and platforms. We are seeking a highly skilled Operations Manager to join our team. Leading the Production Planning function while collaborating with a cross-functional team, this role will require collaborative and in-person work to be effective.
The Production Planning Manager is responsible for managing a team that supports all production planning activities across a portfolio, as well as facilitating technical support for designated programs. This includes guiding team members to resolve problems and escalating critical issues in a manner that allows for effective resolutions. Primary relationships include Value Stream Managers, Production Managers, Supervisors/Leads, Technicians, Manufacturing Engineers, Supply Chain, Operations, and Security personnel. In addition to supporting program execution, a Production Planning Manager is required to support defining and executing on customer defined value, strengthening team member problem solving skills, and hosting effective operational sessions that require positive team member engagement. This team member is critical in ensuring that Production Planners maintain material readiness (the right material, at the right place, in the right amount, at the right time) and product flow in a compliant way across production areas.
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.
What You’ll Do:
- Translate customer requirements into strategies and processes, resulting in customer defined value-effective processing.
- Develop operations-related plans, budgets, and policies and procedures.
- Maintain safety and regulatory compliance.
- Select, develop, manage and evaluate personnel consisting of individual contributors and/or team leads/supervisors.
- Develop and facilitate team member progress on systems, technical expertise, problem solving, and contributing to positive work culture.
- Support continuous progress towards a Lean working environment by aligning to customer value and developing capabilities to solve problems to achieve that value.
- Establish a team environment and systems that promote visibility to problems.
- Work towards creating continuous production flow across a portfolio of work.
- Dedication to define what success can look like and the existing current state gaps.
- Build upon our career progression framework to create clarity around individual skill development and growth.
- Work to define a future team structure that better supports people and the work.
- Willing and capable of creating partnerships with cross-functional leaders to ensure successful execution of program activities.
- Work with production team on any capability transitions (Development/Sustainment).
- Work with Factory supports to resolve issues that involve material challenges.
- Be the Production Planning Leader across a portfolio of work.
- Support factory compliance requirements and activities. Actively support internal and customer driven audits and validations.
- Identify and mitigate material-related technical and schedule risks to program execution.
- Execute Production Planning functions on designated programs:
- May review engineering drawings for identification of parts, materials, and tooling needs.
- May assist in identifying assembly and fabrication tooling needs.
- Write and/or maintain requirements and material traceability documentation.
- May procure material via purchase requisitions.
- Anticipate material/part shortages or delays and expedite as required to eliminate project schedule impacts.
- May pull material from inventory locations to meet manufacturing requirements.
- Work internal or supplier material issues.
- May identify long lead procurement and fabrication needs.
- May coordinate the shipping/logistics for deliverables directly to the customer.
- Responsible for continuous improvement projects and identifying learning opportunities.
- Provide material and manufacturing status reports.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
- BS/BA in relevant field plus 6 or more years related experience.
- Each higher degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education to be considered for a substitution in experience.
- Ability to lead in a cross-functional team environment, with a customer-focused approach, and an aptitude for continuous improvement in serving internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated understanding and passion for Lean production concepts, complex problem resolution and supply chain initiatives.
- Solid manufacturing background.
- Demonstrated experience supporting, coaching, and developing team members.
- Excellent diplomatic, communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage and report status of projects within a project management discipline.
- Ability to provide strategic contributions while successfully executing on tactical objectives.
A DoW Interim Secret clearance will be required to start work and required to be maintained to continue work. Higher level clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills- Experience working in a matrix organization leading efforts that impact Engineering, Operations Management, and Supply Chain Management.
- Experience navigating change and ambiguity, and defining success based on customer defined value.
- Experience defining and working towards steady-state flow of production materials.
- Experience with Lean management systems.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $101398 - $172377

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
