The Project Manager with interconnection responsibilities will report to the Manager - Construction Projects as the project manager for new construction and uprate projects across all of Dominion Generation. This includes regulated and merchant project work, supporting solar, off-shore wind, battery storage, small modular reactors, renewable, and fossil-fuel fired generation facilities. This role requires an individual with technical understanding of generation, transmission, and distribution facilities and the ability to simultaneously manage a large workload while working with a wide variety of stakeholders to achieve successful completion of Company goals. Looking for individuals who are talented, detail-oriented, and have demonstrated the ability to work back from core customer needs. Consistently manages stakeholder expectations, schedules, budgets, and multiple work scopes efficiently with high level of organization and attention to detail. Project Managers are comfortable working with developers, engineers, local officials, real estate professionals, contractors, and other external team members from initial site review through EPC contract negotiation to final permitting, construction, commissioning, and post-COD activities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with PJM, Virginia State, and other utility interconnection queue submittals for acquired, self-developed and uprate projects.
- Assist with the advancement of project queue positions through the appropriate queue processes in a manner that supports Company goals related to schedule and budget.
- Participate in interconnection diligence efforts for acquisition and PPA projects.
- Provide interconnection status updates for all projects during construction.
- Assume functional responsibility for payment of all interconnection invoicing
- Provide limited technical support related to metering and operational requirements for generation projects.
- Work with technical and non-technical business owners/partners to overcome obstacles and deliver results
- Manage projects and effectively influence, negotiate, and communicate with business partners including developers, real estate, construction managers, architects & engineers, and EPC Contractors
- Evaluate site feasibility relative to applicable interconnection requirements
- Create estimates for capital requests, and other planning efforts
- Establish effective relationships with project stakeholders to foster successful on-time and on-budget project completion
- Develop and document interconnection-related processes and procedures
- Participate in weekly coordination meetings as needed and submit weekly progress reports to keep all parties aligned on scope, schedule, permitting and budget.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Construction Project Manager II: 3+ years experience in leading and managing complex projects, or managing multi-functional teams in a matrix environment
Construction Project Manager III: 5+ years experience in leading and managing complex projects, or managing multi-functional teams in a matrix environment
Has solid knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, tools and best practices, and applies them to solve project problems and issues. Demonstrates skills in leading, motivating, and coaching project teams and stakeholders, and in managing changes, risks, and uncertainties. Communicates clearly and professionally with diverse audiences, using appropriate verbal, written, and visual techniques. Ability to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control, and close complex projects within time, cost, and quality constraints, using project management tools and software. Ability to create and sustain a positive project culture, adapt to changing project requirements and environments, and implement lessons learned and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with project management, budgeting, scheduling, and risk analysis. Knowledge of power generation, transmission, distribution, and energy markets. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Education Requirements
Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelors
Disciplines preferred: Engineering, Construction Management, Business or related degrees that are applicable to Project Construction in utilities.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
GWO is required for positions required to support Offshore Wind.
Preferred: EIT, PE, PMP, PMI-CP
