Registered Nurse - Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (BCH-Mission Bay))
Job Description
Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
Responsible for providing direct and indirect clinical care to pediatric outpatients who have a variety of oncology and hematologic disorders. Care is provided through the systematic application of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. All components of this process are tailored to meet the patients' physiological, psychosocial, and developmental needs. The Pediatric Oncology Nurse performs ongoing assessments and modifies the care planning process as needed to ensure continuity of care between inpatient, outpatient, homecare, home, and multiple providers. The Pediatric Oncology Nurse is actively involved in patient, staff, and provider education. (S)he participates in clinical research activities within the program and incorporates research findings into the planning and implementation of care.
Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the AMBUL CARE PAT MGR 1 for overall work performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of Oncology Experience as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum of 1 year Pediatric Experience as a Registered Nurse
This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Nursing required
- Minimum of 2 years of oncology experience as a Registered Nurse
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- Current healthcare provider CPR certification
- APHON and Biotherapy Provider Status within 6 months of program start date
