Job Description: Lead Program Engineer Position Title: Lead Program EngineerDepartment: EngineeringReports To: Engineering Director Job Type: Full-Time Job Summary: The Lead Engineer at Federal Equipment Company leads the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives, technical requirements, and customer expectations. They coordinate engineering teams, manage program risk, and drive disciplined execution across the full lifecycle. Key Responsibilities: Project Leadership: Lead cross‑functional engineering teams (design, manufacturing, validation, QA) to deliver engineering programs on time, within budget, and to specification. Work with the Engineering Director and Managers to develop and manage project plans, budgets, and timelines to meet company objectives and client requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and supply chain, to ensure seamless project execution. Design and Development: Track milestones, manage dependencies, resolve issues, and ensure adherence to quality, safety, and performance standards. Identify risks early, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain program stability. Ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and industry standards. Problem Solving and Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance to resolve complex engineering challenges. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to address product or process issues. Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions. Communication and Reporting: Serve as the primary engineering contact for internal stakeholders and external clients. Provide regular updates on project progress, challenges, and key milestones. Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for management and customers. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Proven experience in the design, development, and production of industrial or federal equipment. Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other engineering tools. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and industry standards. Experience with FEA, GD&T, and other analytical techniques. Knowledge: Familiarity with federal and industry regulations for equipment manufacturing. Strong grasp of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies. Soft Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Preferred Qualifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification. Experience in managing large-scale, government-regulated projects. Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus. Physical Demands: Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments. Occasionally required to lift and move heavy equipment or materials. May involve standing, bending, and walking for extended periods. Work Environment: Combination of office and shop-floor environments. Exposure to noise, heat, and manufacturing equipment in the shop floor setting. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in certain areas.
