Responsibilities for Library Security Guard
- Provide a visible security presence, control access to restricted areas, and monitor all floors, entrances, and Skywalk
- Respond quickly and professionally to incidents, emergencies, alarms, and potential threats
- Conduct regular patrols (interior/exterior) to deter suspicious activity and address tenant or visitor concerns
- Operate security equipment, including CCTV, alarms, and metal detection gates; ensure all systems are functioning properly
- Maintain clear, calm communication with the public and staff, offering site information and directions as needed
- De-escalate conflicts using trauma-informed, culturally aware approaches; collaborate with library staff, Crisis Workers, and Community Safety Hosts to foster a safe, welcoming environment
- Enforce policies, remove unauthorized individuals, and assist law enforcement as required
- Complete incident reports, maintain detailed activity logs, and follow opening/closing procedures for the site
