The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pediatrics has an exciting opportunity for a full time Therapist position to work in Miami, FL.

The Therapist provides a full range of therapeutic care as prescribed by the University and federal policies and procedures in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Moreover, the Therapist demonstrates familiarity with a variety of assessment techniques including methodologies and skills training. An employee in this position relates and interacts well with patients relative to their age specific, physical, and psychosocial needs.

Core responsibilities:

  • Interviews, evaluates, and assesses the needs of patients, and develops treatment plans.
  • Works in conjunction with multidisciplinary service teams to ensure implementation of coordinated psychosocial serves as it relates to program participants’ needs.
  • Prepares progress notes, reports and correspondence.
  • Maintains case records confidential.
  • Conducts ongoing individual, groups, and family counseling sessions with patients.
  • Completes psychosocial evaluations, assesses psychological disorders, prepares comprehensive clinical summaries, and makes treatment recommendations.
  • Interprets psychological or psychiatric case information from patients interviewed and from medical or psychiatric sources.
  • Assists with the recordation of data and statistics.
  • Serves as program liaison to collaborating service providers, the courts, and treatment centers.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions:

  • Provide maternal child health education and psychosocial counseling services to program participants, including program enrollment and psychosocial screenings/assessments, psychosocial counseling and additional wraparound services as needed including parenting education, breastfeeding support, tobacco cessation, and other psychosocial and referral services.
  • Provide crisis intervention with program participants when needed and provide referrals to caregivers when appropriate for mental health and/or substance abuse services.
  • Conducts ongoing individual and group psychoeducation and counseling sessions with patients.
  • Provide case management/care coordination services to participants in alignment with the programmatic case management model, including services to address the range of maternal child health psychosocial and behavioral health needs.
  • Provide group educational services including parenting, maternal health education, and other MCH topics.
  • Attend all programmatically required training and staff meetings and strictly adhere to program protocols.
  • Complete all required paper and electronic documentation of client services/measures on time and in compliance with all programmatic guidelines, agency reporting, and contractual requirements of funding agencies. 
  • Assist as needed in quality assurance of service delivery documentation for the purpose of completing agency reports and compliance with program performance measures.
  • Other organizational/support duties as assigned.

Core Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required. Master’s in Social Work, Counseling, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

  • Knowledge and experience in counseling and mental health issues.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with clients and external agencies.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette.
  • Home visitation skills, willingness to use personal vehicle, and occasional weekend and evening hours.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
