Job Description Summary

Join the fun at the Royal Sonesta Hotel! We are searching for candidates that have a passion for hospitality. The Barback will work with other staff members to ensure that our guests receive prompt, seamless service. Assist with cleaning the bar, preparing garnishes, ensuring the bar is well stocked with all relevant beverages, napkins, straws, glassware. Run food from kitchen area to bar, and perform other duties to support the Bartender and Servers to ensure that the bar operates smoothly. The Barback should be knowledgeable about menu items, attentive, and focused on providing the best possible service in a fast-paced environment. The hours are 5 pm to 11:30 pm. (may be later hours depending on business)

Job Description

Special Qualifications, Education, or Licenses:

• Previous experience as a barback a plus
• Must be able to speak English
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy
• Possess basic knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits
• Knowledge of standard drink recipes a plus
• Ability to stand, walk, and move around during the entire shift
• Must possess basic math skills
• Must have the ability to communicate clearly and directly with guests using a positive, clear speaking voice
• Must have the ability to work a varied schedule that may include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
• Must have a valid TABC and Food Handler certification or be capable of obtaining these certifications upon hire

Pay Range

Job Tasks:

• Requisitioning and stocking liquor, beer, wine, juices, soft drinks, garnishments, condiments and glassware
• Ensuring that bar and service areas are organized, clean and neat
• Replenishing supplies in the bar area, including garnishes, liquor, beer, glassware, napkins, and other related items
• Assisting bartenders throughout the shift with supplies, glassware, change, etc.
• Assisting bartenders and servers as needed
• Serve as a food runner
• Assist in clearing table of dirty dishes
• Wipe down and re-set with speed and accuracy
• Stock clean dishes in appropriate areas
• Take and pick up supplies from the storeroom.
• Sweep and mop floors during slow periods and after closing 
• Carry dishes to and from the dishwashing area
• Move tables as needed according to the requests of the manager or server
• General cleaning duties, assisted by supervisor or manager
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of all relevant work areas
• Maintain cleanliness of work station area and communicate to supervisor any maintenance needed to keep equipment in good working order
• Maintain a pleasant and courteous attitude, making our guest your number one priority
• To perform any other tasks as assigned by Management
