Job Description

Join the VCA West Coast Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital team as a Doctor's Assistant in Surgery! 

Location: 18300 Euclid St., Fountain Valley, CA 92708

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 4 X 10 alternative work week

Compensation: $20 - $30 / hour.

ALL dependent on education, experience, credentials, location, nature of practice, schedule, and additional responsibilities.

Why We Want You! 

We are seeking a dedicated Doctor's Assistant (Veterinary Assistant - VA) to join our Surgery department. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing high-quality care to animals, with a specific focus on surgery. As an integral part of our team, you will work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians and/or assistants, and other staff members to ensure the well-being of our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the veterinarian and Technical Support Team with physical examinations and consultations.

  • Facilitate appointments and drop-offs between the client, the doctor, and the Technical Support Team

  • Ability to communicate and interact compassionately, as well as educate clients about procedures and post-operative care

  • Managing medical records, reports, and correspondence

  • Must possess a good understanding of financial and medical charges and accurately charge for services

  • Ability to schedule patient appointments for consults, rechecks, and/or procedures as well as facilitate discharges in a fast -paced, high-stress environment

  • Ability to perform other duties that may be assigned by leadership

  • Restraining and assisting in patient exams and routine procedures

  • Obtain patient vitals

  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records

  • Maintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols, handle medical/biomedical and infectious waste appropriately

Qualifications:

  • 2 years minimum Veterinary Medicine experience as a Veterinary Technician or Assistant (preferred, but not required)

  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and common conditions

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

  • Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards animals and their owners

  • Willingness to learn and grow in the veterinary field
