
Quality Control Inspector
Job Description
General Summary
Perform inspections, checks, and tests of materials, components, and finished production pieces to ensure conformance to specifications and quality standards.
Desired Knowledge and/or Skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of basic shop mathematics.
• Experience in heavy structural fabrication.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
• Proficient in the effective operation of welding equipment.
Duties
• Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.
• Measure dimensions using rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
• Read blueprints, manuals, and testing procedures to determine specifications.
• Record inspection and test data including weights, temperatures, grades, and quantities.
• Mark items with grade or acceptance-rejection status.
• Notify supervisors of production problems and recommend corrective actions.
Work Experience
Safety Requirements
• Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain orderly and clean work areas.
• Attend all required safety meetings.
• Inspect equipment daily to ensure safety compliance.
• Inspect tools daily before use including extension cords.
• Use hand and power tools safely with correct guards in place.
• Wear proper PPE appropriate for assigned tasks.
• Required PPE:
• Fire/flame-resistant clothing.
• Heavy flame-resistant gloves.
• Respirators when ventilation is inadequate.
• Steel/hard toe boots.
• Hearing protection.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to withstand bending, squatting, or crouching.
• Ability to frequently handle tools, equipment, or materials.
• Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, including cold, heat, and humidity.
