
Quality Control Inspector
Job Description
Position Summary
Ensure products meet established quality standards by examining and testing at various stages of the production process.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform visual inspection of weld quality and dimensional checks of detail parts.
• Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.
• Measure product dimensions using rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
• Read blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications and testing procedures.
• Record inspection/test data including dimensions, defects, grades, and quantities.
• Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.
• Notify supervisors or production personnel of problems and recommend corrective actions.
Work Experience
Qualifications and Requirements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of basic shop mathematics.
• Experience in heavy structural fabrication and ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
• Knowledge of welding processes.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
• Ability to stand for long periods and occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional bending, squatting, or crouching with frequent handling of tools, equipment, and material.
• Ability to work in inclement weather conditions including cold, heat, and humidity.
Safety Requirements
• Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc. safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain orderly and clean work areas and attend required safety meetings.
• Inspect equipment and tools daily and use hand and power tools safely.
• Wear appropriate PPE for specific tasks.
