Facility : OrthoIndy, Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center, Indianapolis, IN Department : IHTSC Occupational Therapy Shift Details : 16 hours a week, flexible weekday shifts. This position is located at the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center located at 8501 Harcourt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46260. General Statement of Duties: The Occupational Therapy Technician assists occupational therapists in providing therapy services to patients recovering from injuries, illnesses, or disabilities. Supports therapeutic activities, prepares treatment areas and equipment, helps patients perform exercises, and documents patient progress under the supervision of licensed occupational therapists. Essential Duties: Maintains adequate stock of supplies in cabinets and drawers. Monitors all cabinets and drawers for supplies that are getting low. Orders medical supplies as needed and follows appropriate procedure for ordering using the PO system. Stocks medical supplies upon arrival. Maintains and produces an adequate stock of specialty supplies such as: stockinette, outriggers, Velfoamä straps, IPJ slings, precut splinting material, outrigger slings, etc. Also maintains copies of common handouts in hanging file folders. Maintains current copies of all patient handouts, monitor for low stock and make copies as needed. Maintains an organized and clean treatment area by cleaning treatment tables and beds daily with alcohol, sterilize instruments, ensure the whirlpools are sterile, pick up items around the clinic and return to proper place, and clean counters, drawers, and cabinets regularly. Recommend replacement of defective equipment and tools. Monitor for safety in the clinic. Alert director of therapy of any equipment failure, leaks, contamination, malfunctioning of any equipment or items in the clinic, or any issues in the clinic of any nature as soon as possible. Assist therapists with patient care: remove/apply dressings, care for wounds, assist the therapist with documentation in the charts, instruct patients in exercises work simulator, measure edema and describe wounds, administer ultrasound and hot/cold packs under the direction of the therapist, administer and clean whirlpools. Never assists with patient care beyond the scope of the MA training. Always consults with the therapist or physician on patient intervention. Document clearly and completely in any patient notes and when writing for a therapist. Be detailed and thorough with documentation, following all requirements of the therapy department. Handle patient equipment rentals and special orders. Complete requirements for State Board of Health: culture whirlpools, complete splint pan cleaning, complete equipment maintenance schedule, record water temperature in hydrocollator and hydrocollator maintenance as indicated by owner’s manual, record freezer temperature, and complete fire extinguisher checks as required. Alert director of malfunctioning tools, equipment, or cords. Schedule therapy appointments properly and efficiently. Requirements : High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required Specialty training beyond high school (i.e., vocational school) preferred 1-2 years of experience preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification required OrthoIndy is an Equal Opportunity Employer
