- Support and oversee the design, construction, deployment, and maintenance of voice systems, including PBX/KSU systems, emergency phones, and public address systems (PA).
- Support installation of fiber optics and structured cabling (CAT6) across communication rooms and field sites.
- Coordinate the installation and testing of radio systems (UHF/VHF), SCADA-linked communications cabinets, and intercom systems, including Help Point (HP), elevator and platform intercoms.
- Monitor SONET networks and other network infrastructure (e.g., PSLAN).
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs with vendors to minimize downtime across the radio systems, PA systems, and emergency communication systems.
- Lead telecommunications projects from planning through commissioning, ensuring alignment with MTA requirements.
- Facilitate Communications Kickoff Meetings with vendors and contractors to review project scope and milestones.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from vendors for large telecom projects, ensuring compliance with NYCT standards.
- Perform system acceptance testing and inspections to verify fiber optic and cabling installations.
- Participate in cross-disciplinary reviews to ensure the telecommunications infrastructure aligns with system-wide goals.
- Conduct regular evaluations and generate status reports on the performance of all telecom systems.
- Maintain detailed inventories of telecom equipment, including radios and fiber optic components.
- Track invoices and purchase orders related to telecommunication services and equipment.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on telecom project progress and system performance metrics.
- Act as a primary point of contact for telecom-related Contracts including in PA systems, radio systems, or intercom networks.
- One year of satisfactory, full-time experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, and/or administrative duties in voice telecommunications or a closely related electronics planning, electronics management, and/or electronics service environment; and:
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24
- A four‐year high school diploma and certificates, badges, or technical education in
- Two years of experience as described in “1” above and:
- A baccalaureate degree; or
- An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12
- A four-year high school diploma, plus certificates, badges, or technical education in
- A four-year high school diploma and three years of experience as described in “1” above; or
- A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to ʺ1ʺ, ʺ2ʺ or ʺ3ʺ above. College education not used for meeting the minimum requirements in ʺ1ʺ or ʺ2ʺ above may be substituted for experience on the basis of each 30 semester credits of undergraduate college education, including or supplemented by 6 semester credits in voice Telecommunication (telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic and cellular service), telecommunications technology, electronics, physics, mathematics, computer science and/or planning and analysis of electronic systems, or related area, for six months of experience described in ʺ1ʺ above, up to a maximum of two years’ experience. Certificates, badges, or technical education in telecommunications equivalent to 6 months of full-time training or 24 semester credits may be substituted for experience on the basis of 6 months of full-time training for one year of experience as described in “1” above, up to a maximum of two years’ experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four‐year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of the experience described in ʺ1ʺ above.
- As a Telecommunications Associate (Voice) Assignment Level I, II, and III working for
- Performing analytical, planning, operational, technical, and/or administrative duties in a voice telecommunication, electronics planning, electronics management, and/or electronics service environment, one year of which must have been specialized work in a consultative or supervisory capacity.
- Hands-on experience with voice communications systems, radio networks (UHF/VHF), PBX systems, and fiber optic infrastructure.
- Familiarity with public address systems, CCTV\Intercom (with LIDS), SONET networks, and COE (Connection Oriented Ethernet).
- Experience managing complex telecommunications projects and working with vendors and MTA User Groups.
- Knowledge of SONET, PSLAN, and COE (Connection Oriented Ethernet) networks.
- Familiarity with emergency communication infrastructure, including Radio, emergency telephones, sound-powered telephones, 6-wire, EEBCS & TDS.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for telecom infrastructure.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
