Position Title: Manager, Student Information Systems

 

Department: Information Technology 

 

Reports To: Executive Director of Information Technology 

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two years experience with a student information system.
  • A minimum of two years experience as software application support to end users including troubleshooting techniques and problem isolation and resolution

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have current government issued identification

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

8 Hours/230 Days

Administrative Salary Schedule

 

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment may be adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of the Application Services Director, is delegated responsibility for the assistance in operations, problem-solving, and technical support of the district's centralized and remote computer systems and services.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One towards increased outcomes for students.
  • Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
  • Serves as chief support for all major school applications including, but not limited to, the district's Student Information System (SIS), Registration solution, and messaging tools.
  • Assists in all data collections required by the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) as scheduled during the school year including managing and monitoring the data submission in a timely manner. Works with school staff to ensure data is ready for submission.
  • Keeps abreast of SCDE information regarding the SIS and participates in relevant SCDE training and webinars. Shares SCDE updates with colleagues and end-users in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the administration and configuration of applications and systems to include end-user accessibility, problem troubleshooting and resolution, and processes definition in the support of the district's operations and objectives.
  • Provides assistance to staff in each of the district's schools in support of various hardware and software applications and related technologies.
  • Provides technical support to parents and students as needed.
  • Prepares documentation and training material as well as conducts software training sessions for users as well as colleagues as needed.
  • Serves as a technical resource and executes interactive programs to provide information and/or reports as scheduled or as requested in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Expands knowledge of existing hardware, software, and related technologies and processes and attains new skills as needed to keep pace with emerging technologies.
  • Interacts and communicates with end-users, district staff, immediate supervisor, and other school district personnel.
  • Operates general office equipment, computers and related technology equipment.
  • Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

No direct budgetary or supervisory responsibility.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.

Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. Extensive knowledge of navigating software applications, hardware, as well as operational abilities with local area network operating systems. Above average knowledge and abilities in troubleshooting techniques and problem isolation and resolution. Sufficient knowledge of databases, queries, data analysis, documentation, and hardware care and upkeep. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Ability to assist in the operations, availability, accessibility and integrity of software applications. Skill in standalone and local area network operation, troubleshooting, and hardware and software management. Ability to handle requests and complaints from end-users and other personnel in a professional and effective manner. Ability to manage and assist in multiple projects concurrently and under deadline pressure. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to demonstrate high-level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.

Personal computer experience required. Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group. Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines. Some extended hours and multiple demands from several people are frequently required of the employee. Computer literacy required. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds such as boxes of materials. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as furniture or boxes of materials.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen and/or reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision. Occasionally the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours. Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Duties are performed in an office setting with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Requires use of a PC or other computing device for long durations. Physical demands are restricted to work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items up to seventy-five pounds. Local travel is required; occasional overnight travel may be required.

The noise level in the work environment for this position varies. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day.
