Function / Position Summary
To implement the U-46 curriculum and initiatives with fidelity to improve academic achievement for all students.
To meet the instructional needs of students as defined by the NAGC Standards and U-46 goals for gifted education.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Plans a program of study that follows district guidelines and meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, including the social, emotional, and academic needs of gifted learners.
- Implements research-based teaching strategies that engage all students, acknowledging a range of abilities and cultural backgrounds.
- Delivers current district curriculum and subject matter that is grade-level appropriate.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
- Displays a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
- Able to scaffold instruction to meet both curricular and language acquisition needs.
- Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of curriculum goals andestablishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
- Implements learning strategies that evidence both acceleration and enrichment.
- Aligns teaching and learning opportunities to the CCSS
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents regularly, and as requested by the administration
- Implements assessments of student progress and communicates progress to students and parents.
- Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work to their highest potential.
- Works cooperatively with the building principal and the Assistant Director of Gifted, Accelerated, and Magnet Programs.
- Participates in curriculum, personnel, policy, or professional development committees related to the Gifted Educational Program.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
- Assists administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in the area(s) assigned and/or supervised in a fair and just manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a related subject from an accredited university.
- Previous experience as a gifted teacher is preferred.
- The Center for Talent Development's Gifted Education Boot Camp required
Experience / Knowledge
- Has a strong commitment to continued Professional Growth in Gifted Education.
Physical Demands
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasionally stooping, bending, and reaching
- Must work indoors.
Terms of Employment
- Nine-month position (184 work days)
