Job Description

Position Title: Welder


Qualifications: 
Required: High school education/G.E.D... Must have at least 4 years experience in welding and sheet metal work as primary source of income. Must be able to gas weld, electric weld, wire welding machine, TIG weld, cutting torch, various cut off equipment, grinder, etc. Working knowledge of other tools and equipment required to perform the specific task. Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds. Physically able to perform the specific job. Able to lift fifty (50) pounds or more. Able to work outside in cold temperatures during emergency conditions if required. Must have a valid Driver's License. Success completion of a background check, physical capacity assessment, and drug screen prior to start date.
Preferred: Must have good planning and organizational skills. Considerable practical experience in all areas of their responsibility

Salary Schedule: Per Approved Operations Salary Schedule

Purpose: This person is responsible for the upkeep of buildings, furniture and equipment of the St. Joseph School District as instructed by the Director of Maintenance and Operations or his appointed representative.


Essential Job Functions: 

  • Attend work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • Available for after-hour calls.
  • Repairs to metal school furniture, handrails, window guards, gutters, downspouts and ductwork.
  • Metal fabrication tasks such as: handrails, window guards, speaker and other equipment protection, parts and jigs, auto and truck welding repairs, gutters, downspouts, sheet metal parts or items and ductwork.
  • Determine project requirements, including scope, assembly sequences, and required methods and materials, according to blueprints, drawings and written or verbal instructions.
  • Makes recommendations for purchase of supplies and materials related to proper building and equipment upkeep.
  • Keeps tools and equipment in good operating condition.
  • Keeps tools organized in order to minimize wasted time.
  • Keeps shop and work area clean and orderly at all times.
  • Maintains appropriate grooming and appearance for work in a school setting.
  • Maintains safe working conditions at the assigned job station at all times.
  • Safe guards School District property, buildings tools and equipment from damage in performing daily assignments.
  • Erect, climb, and work off/from scaffold or ladders.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with other maintenance staff, school principals, teachers, students, and District supervisors and administrators.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Director of Maintenance and/or his appointed representative.
