Job Overview:
The Senior Director level of Strategic Delivery and Growth (SDG) is an experienced leader within SDG, they are expected to leverage their leadership competencies, research and development experience, Therapeutic Area (TA) experience and operational study execution experience to sustainably grow a portfolio of innovative and profitable business. This includes early engagement conversations with clients, leadership and attendance at conference, RFP leadership and post award strategy management. These areas should have focus on but not be limited to Fortrea innovative operational delivery strategies and cross functional team leadership to design effective and differentiated strategies for operational execution. As a key leader/Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the TA, they are expected to proactively contribute to cross enterprise business opportunities, leveraging their expertise to aid the growth of the integrated business across Fortrea. In addition, they are expected to establish and develop strong client relationships and be seen as an industry leader internally by colleagues and peers and externally by clients.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Have a strong background across pharmaceutical development, with the research and development know-how combined with an excellent understanding of the industry, market and clients’ needs.
- Able to present the cross enterprise medical, scientific and operational capabilities of the organization to clients.
- Contributes significantly to the growth within the Fortrea.
- Designs and develops winning trial strategies and integrated solutions that result in clear differentiation in the marketplace, higher win rate, and a more profitable portfolio of business in Fortrea.
- Owns and internally advocates for client needs, expectations and satisfaction; identifies, develops and fosters new and existing client relationships at senior operational levels with clients, KOLs, vendor partners etc., in partnership with operational colleagues, guiding teams in delivering to and establish/maintain effective client relationships.
- Leads high quality, strategically innovative price competitive end-to-end business development strategies, including RFI response, proposal development, bid defense preparation.
- Be an ambassador of the company.
- Supports capability, visibility and position through development of appropriate publications and presentations at conferences, meetings and webinars, etc.
- Has a good understanding of the operational requirements to deliver against the agreed strategy in the post award space.
- Provides oversight of strategy implementation in the post award space, ensuring that the team understands the defined operational strategy.
- Uses established operational, financial and quality metrics and reporting dashboards to assess compliance to strategy.
- Remains in consultation with the team in the post award space until the end of recruitment, and ensures ongoing strategy assessments and modifications in line with the direction of the project.
- Contributes to both quality control and risk assurance activities to ensure project deliverables are met according to regulatory, Fortrea and client requirements.
- Uses experience and lessons learned to ensure process improvements are implemented successfully across all opportunities.
- Contributes to key project performance indicators relating to core strategies, for client and Fortrea specified metrics.
- Engages with leadership to help drive and implement initiatives which aim to improve performance of the business, including cross TA and functional integrated opportunities, to grow and expand the business.
- Helps to define and implement the company and department vision and strategy; translates this into key initiatives and priorities; develops and delivers against company and department operating plans and project plans; able to achieve results in a global, virtual and complex environment; tracks and measures progress.
- Partners with peers ensuring consistency (quality, standards, policies, processes and practices) across the portfolio.

- Contributes to the TA commercial and scientific leadership and direction, leveraging expertise from other functions as required to ensure the successful growth and differentiation in the global marketplace.
- Ensures appropriate development and delivery of Department, TA and program-specific training.
- Participates in training opportunities to advance knowledge of TA, drug development, GCP, etc.
- In-depth knowledge of operations.
- All other duties as needed or assigned.
The ideal candidate should have:
- Strong clinical research and development experience
- Solid project/program management experience, especially end-to-end and not just partial delivery experience
- At least 3–5 years of full regional or global project management experience
- Experience leading cross-functional development programs
- Strong understanding of regulations and medical practice across multiple countries, especially China, the US, the EU, and some APAC markets such as Australia, Keora and Japan
- Strong strategic thinking, not only execution ability
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- Excellent English, especially spoken English, because the role involves frequent communication with global stakeholders and clients
- Chinese language ability is prioritized, but still open for English speaking candidate who demonstrate strong experience in strategy and MRCT project management/oversite.
Working Style and Environment
- Frequent cross-time-zone meetings, often early morning or late at night
- Mainly virtual collaboration
- Some travel, but generally less than a traditional PM/operations role
- High pressure driven by tight proposal timelines, sometimes only a few days to develop strategy for an RFP
- A flexible work style, but one that is strongly delivery-driven
