Job Description
Position Summary: The Project Sales Technician serves as a technical resource supporting Project Sales Representatives in the development of engineered lifting, rigging, and transportation solutions. This role focuses on site evaluations, lift planning, scope validation, and internal coordination to ensure complex projects are technically sound, executable, and aligned with branch capabilities.
This is not a quoting or revenue-carrying role. The Project Sales Technician does not manage a sales plan, Top Accounts, or transactional opportunities but strengthens project pursuits through technical expertise and disciplined risk identification.
This role is intended for large project branches where the Project Sales Representative’s time is best concentrated on customer engagement and strategic pursuits rather than field evaluation and lift planning support. It is not expected to be applicable at every branch, and Branch Managers should evaluate volume and resource needs before creating this position.
Travel includes regular local site visits and project evaluations, with occasional regional travel depending on project scope.
Responsibilities and Principal Duties:
- Safety & Risk Identification: Identify operational and commercial risk during site evaluations. Provide clear technical input to support disciplined opportunity selection and safe execution planning.
- Project Field Evaluation: Conduct site visits, detailed job walks, and technical assessments to validate scope, constraints, ground conditions, lift sequencing, and equipment feasibility.
- Technical Solution Development: Partner with Project Sales Representatives and engineering teams to develop practical, innovative lifting and transport solutions aligned with customer requirements.
- Advanced Lift Planning: Develop detailed lift plans and technical documentation to support engineered project pursuits and customer review.
- Estimating Support: Provide detailed scope inputs, equipment requirements, duration assumptions, and execution variables to support accurate project estimating and pricing development.
- Proposal Technical Support: Contribute technical narratives, lift documentation, and execution assumptions for inclusion in project proposals.
- Operational Alignment: Coordinate with operations, dispatch, and field leadership to ensure proposed project approaches align with branch capabilities and resource availability.
- Documentation & Systems: Maintain accurate technical records, site findings, and lift documentation within company systems.
- Customer Interaction: Participate in technical discussions and site meetings as a subject matter resource under direction of Project Sales Representatives.
- Professional Conduct: Demonstrate humility, strong work ethic, and a team-first mindset consistent with Barnhart’s culture. Exhibit industriousness, personal accountability, and collaboration in support of the One Team philosophy.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma required. Technical, engineering, or trade education preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years of field experience in crane, rigging, heavy lift, construction, or related industrial environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of lifting principles, rigging methods, equipment capabilities, and jobsite risk considerations.
- Lift Planning Capability: Ability to develop detailed lift plans and technical documentation for complex applications.
- Communication: Ability to clearly communicate technical findings to sales and operations teams.
- Tools: Proficiency with lift planning software, MS Office, and CRM systems.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform jobsite surveys including outdoor work and climbing. Must pass fit for duty exam.
- Travel: Local and occasional regional travel depending on project scope.
