About the Role

We’re looking for a Designer Technician to support our engineering and project teams in developing accurate, compliant, and high-quality solar lighting designs. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who is eager to grow their technical design skills while gaining exposure to real-world infrastructure projects.

You’ll work closely with project managers, municipalities, and third-party engineering partners to develop and refine design plans for solar lighting installations, including retrofit and adaptation projects. You will also play a key role in facilitating communication across internal departments, ensuring alignment between engineering, operations, and project management teams. This position is fully office-based and plays a critical role in ensuring that all project designs meet technical specifications, regulatory standards, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

CAD Drafting & Design

  • Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks (required)

  • Create, read, and interpret fully dimensioned engineering drawings using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) in accordance with ISO standards, including ISO functional dimensioning practices

  • Apply ISO-based GD&T and functional dimensioning principles to ensure proper fit, function, tolerancing, and manufacturability of components

  • Prepare layouts, technical schematics, and blueprints for solar lighting systems

  • Revise and update drawings based on engineering review, functional requirements, and project restraints

  • Ensure that all designs are accurate, clear, and aligned with project specifications

Technical Design Support

  • Assist engineers with basic design calculations, tolerance considerations, and material selection

  • Support retrofit and adaptation designs by applying functional dimensioning to accommodate existing field conditions

  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards, state regulations, safety codes, and industry regulations

  • Review plans and drawings for accuracy, consistency, and constructability

Documentation & Coordination

  • Maintain version control of drawings and design documentation.

  • Organize and manage project files, revisions, and technical records in accordance with quality and documentation standards

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and project management teams to resolve design discrepancies

  • Communicate with municipalities and third-party engineers to support approvals and project alignment

What You Bring

  • 1–3 years of experience in CAD drafting, design support, or a related technical field

  • Required: Proficiency in SolidWorks (candidates without SolidWorks experience will not be considered)

  • Required: Demonstrated experience creating and interpreting GD&T-based drawings aligned with ISO standards, including functional dimensioning

  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, blueprints, and design documentation

  • Proven ability to produce production-ready drawings that clearly convey functional requirements and assembly intent

  • Familiarity with basic engineering principles, electrical systems, or construction workflows

  • Experience supporting designs that interface with existing infrastructure or retrofit conditions

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to work across teams and external partners

  • A proactive, focused mindset with a commitment to learning and continuous improvement

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $55,000–$70,000 (based on experience)

  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Medical, Dental, Vision

  • Travel Reimbursement & Field Gear Provided

  • Generous PTO Policy – because work-life balance matters

  • Career Growth Opportunity: Build your field operations experience and grow into a management role

  • Mission-Driven Culture: Be part of a team transforming how cities light their communities
