What You’ll Do 

As a Unit Clerk in our Perioperative Services Department, you will play an important role in supporting patients, physicians, nurses, and staff throughout the surgical care process. This position serves as a central communication and administrative hub for the department, helping ensure accurate documentation, smooth daily operations, and a positive patient experience. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, compassionate, and able to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • Welcome and assist patients, visitors, physicians, and staff in person and by phone while creating a professional and supportive environment.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties related to patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and perioperative documentation.
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls, emails, and intercom pages, relay messages, and respond to patient call lights as needed.
  • Accurately enter physician orders and maintain organized patient charts, records, surgical packets, and other required documentation.
  • Support pre-operative and post-operative processes by preparing paperwork, gathering information, and ensuring documentation accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Maintain unit supply inventory by monitoring stock levels, ordering supplies, and verifying deliveries to support daily department operations.
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment and contributing to overall team success.
  • Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.

 

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented professional who enjoys working in a collaborative healthcare environment. The ideal candidate is organized, communicates effectively, and is able to manage multiple priorities while supporting patients, providers, and fellow team members. This role is well suited for someone who remains calm under pressure, values accuracy, and is committed to delivering excellent customer service and administrative support.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum 2 years of experience in a medical or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current American Heart Association approved BLS certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred, along with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and effective working relationships with patients, families, providers, co-workers, and the public.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, pay close attention to detail, and respond calmly in fast-paced or emergency situations.

 

What We Offer

Our total rewards package includes

  • Pay Range: $17.50 - $20.00/hour (based on experience)
  • Shift Differentials: $2–$4/hour for nights and weekends, and other incentive pay available.
  • PRN Differential: 10% differential in addition to base rate salary

Compensation may vary outside this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.
