Job Description

The Front of House Supervisor is the welcoming face of Taylors College Sydney and the initial point of contact for students, staff, and visitors. The role combines front-of-house student experience and hospitality with day-to-day campus security and facilities support responsibilities.

The Front of House Supervisor operates as part of the broader facilities and student success function, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and well-functioning campus environment for a diverse student community.

In addition to operational duties, the Front of House Supervisor carries a supervisory responsibility for part-time and casual staff working at the front desk, ensuring consistent service standards, appropriate coverage, and adherence to College policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Front of House Supervisor & Student Experience

  • Greet and assist students, staff, and visitors in a warm, professional, and culturally responsive manner
  • Manage front desk operations
  • Provide campus information and refer students to appropriate support services
  • Issue and manage visitor passes, student ID cards, and access credentials
  • Maintain a professional, tidy front desk and common area environment
  • Support student events, orientation, and campus activities as required
  • Monitor student welfare and escalate concerns appropriately

Supervision of Part-Time and Casual Staff

  • Supervise and provide day-to-day direction to part-time and casual front desk staff
  • Coordinate shift handovers and ensure adequate staffing coverage across operating hours
  • Induct new part-time and casual staff into front desk procedures, campus protocols, and service standards
  • Monitor and provide feedback on staff performance, escalating to senior staff as required
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to casual staff during periods of high activity
  • Ensure all part-time and casual staff comply with WHS requirements, security protocols, and College policies
  • Maintain accurate records of casual staff hours, incident involvement, and training completion

Security Operations

  • Monitor and protect campus premises, people, and property in accordance with Taylors College Sydney protocols
  • Control the movement of people, vehicles, goods, and property on campus
  • Conduct routine patrols of campus buildings and grounds as required
  • Operate CCTV, access control systems, and hand-held security equipment
  • Ensure contractors sign in and out and are escorted on site where required; notify Facilities on arrival and departure
  • Respond to fire alarms, security alerts, and other emergencies, supporting or leading evacuation procedures as required
  • Assist with crowd management in a calm, respectful, and professional manner
  • Complete daily security logs, shift reports, and incident documentation accurately and on time
  • Record at least one incident, observation, or near-miss per month in line with reporting requirements
  • Liaise with NSW Police or emergency services when required
  • Enforce campus rules and codes of conduct consistently and respectfully

Facilities Support

  • Notify the relevant teams when contractors arrive and depart
  • Escalate WHS, safety, or maintenance issues promptly to the Campus Operations Officer

Emergency Response

  • Act as a first responder by raising alarms, contacting emergency services, and coordinating assistance in line with campus procedures
  • Support emergency evacuations and perform floor or building warden duties as required
  • Assist designated First Aid Officers or emergency responders until they arrive
  • Participate in emergency response training and drills as required

Qualifications

  • Selection Criteria

    Essential

  • Certificate II in Security Operations (or higher) with a valid NSW Security Licence
  • Experience using access control and CCTV systems
  • Current First Aid certification including CPR (required for emergency readiness)
  • Demonstrated experience in a customer-facing, front desk, or Front of House Supervisor role
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or leading a small team, including part-time or casual staff
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse communities
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency or conflict situations
  • Working knowledge of WHS requirements
  • High standards of confidentiality and privacy awareness
  • High reliability, punctuality, and professional presentation
  • Current Working With Children Check (NSW)
  • Current National Police Check

Desirable

  • Experience in an education or student services environment
  • Mental Health First Aid certification
  • Additional language skills relevant to the student cohort
  • Familiarity with CBRE or similar facilities management systems
  • Experience coordinating rosters or scheduling for casual staff

Work Health & Safety

All staff are expected to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others, comply with WHS policies and procedures, complete required inductions, and participate in emergency response training. The Front of House Supervisor is additionally responsible for ensuring part-time and casual staff under their supervision meet these same obligations.

 

Conditions of Employment

  • Rotating rosters may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • Supervision of part-time and casual staff rostered across these hours is a core requirement of the role
  • Licences and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment
  • Appointment subject to satisfactory National Police Check and Working With Children Check
  • Role requires the ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods
