Pre-Owned Operations Director

San Jose, CAPosted 4 months ago
Full Time - salary

Job Description

At Del Grande Dealer Group (DGDG), we are redefining what modern automotive retail looks like. Powered by a people-first culture and a commitment to innovation, our vision is simple: create exceptional guest experiences while building scalable, high-performing operations.

We are seeking a Pre-Owned Operations Director to lead and evolve DGDG’s centralized pre-owned strategy across acquisition, inventory management, and disposition. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for building sustainable, scalable pre-owned performance while positioning the organization for continued growth and future acquisitions.

This role reports directly to the VP of Sales and will play a critical part in shaping the next phase of DGDG’s pre-owned business.

The Opportunity

This is not a traditional used car role.

You will operate at a group-wide, strategic level, owning the systems, processes, and partnerships that drive pre-owned performance across all rooftops. You’ll bring a modern, data-driven approach to inventory flow, while building a centralized model that increases volume without sacrificing margin or operational discipline.

What You’ll Own

Centralized Pre-Owned Strategy & Execution
Lead the design and execution of DGDG’s end-to-end pre-owned operating model, ensuring alignment across acquisition, inventory lifecycle, and disposition.

Vehicle Acquisition (Scale & Strategy)
Oversee centralized auction buying and third-party sourcing strategies to ensure a consistent, high-quality pipeline of inventory across all stores. Optimize channel mix (auction, digital, private party) to drive both volume and margin.

Wholesale, Disposition & Inventory Flow
Own the group-wide strategy for wholesale, intercompany transfers, and inventory balancing. Ensure disciplined decision-making around aging inventory, exit strategies, and capital efficiency.

Sell2DGDG Growth & Marketing Oversight
Drive the expansion and performance of Sell2DGDG, including operational execution, marketing alignment, and customer acquisition strategy to increase direct-to-consumer vehicle sourcing.

Process Standardization & Scalability
Build and implement scalable, repeatable processes that support current operations while positioning DGDG for future growth and acquisitions.

Performance Management & Analytics
Establish and monitor key performance metrics including turn rate, inventory aging, acquisition cost, and wholesale performance. Translate data into actionable insights that drive results across the group.

Vendor & Strategic Partnerships
Develop and maintain strong relationships with auctions, digital platforms, and wholesale partners to maximize value and market positioning.

Who You Are

You are a proven operator and strategic leader in the pre-owned space—someone who understands both the front-line realities of retail and the complexity of scaled, centralized operations.

You bring structure where there is ambiguity, and you know how to drive performance across multiple rooftops without losing local accountability.

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of progressive automotive experience, with deep expertise in pre-owned operations
  • Experience in a high-volume, process-driven environment (e.g., CarMax, AutoNation, Sonic Automotive or similar)
  • Prior leadership experience as a Store Manager, General Manager, or in a centralized/group-level role
  • Demonstrated success driving inventory turn, acquisition strategy, and margin performance at scale
  • Strong analytical and operational mindset with the ability to translate data into execution
  • Experience building or optimizing centralized buying and disposition models
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence at all levels of the organization

Why DGDG

  • Opportunity to build and shape a best-in-class pre-owned operation
  • High visibility with executive leadership and direct impact on company performance
  • Values-driven culture and team built on integrity, caring, performance and efficiency

If you’re looking for a role where you can build, scale, and lead at a strategic level—this is it.

Salary: $200,000-$300,000/annually

*Pay is based on applicable experience and skills. This role is bonus eligible.

Industry Leading Benefits:

  • Continuous career development and advancement opportunities
  • Comprehensive benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision)
