The Ohio State University College of Medicine and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center seek an accomplished, visionary, and collaborative academic leader to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Radiology. This is a pivotal opportunity to lead a nationally recognized department within one of the country’s premier academic medical centers during a period of unprecedented institutional growth and transformation.
Across the university and medical center, investment in the tripartite mission of research, education, and patient care continues at an unprecedented pace. A transformative $3 billion expansion has been realized, including the opening of a new +820-bed inpatient hospital tower, the development of the Innovation District at Carmenton, expanded ambulatory sites across the region, and continued growth in interdisciplinary research infrastructure. The next Chair will play a central role in leveraging this expanded clinical and research footprint to position the Department of Radiology as a national leader in imaging science, interventional innovation, translational research, and academic training.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chair serves as the academic, clinical, and administrative leader of the department and reports directly to the dean of the College of Medicine. The Chair is responsible for advancing excellence across all mission areas, including:
Clinical care delivery across the health system
Research growth and national prominence
Education and training of medical students, residents, fellows, and imaging professionals
Faculty recruitment, mentorship, and development
Strategic alignment with College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center priorities
The Chair will lead a large and highly specialized faculty across multiple hospital and ambulatory sites, ensuring the department remains innovative, collaborative, financially sound, and nationally competitive.
Additional responsibilities include:
Strategic and Departmental Leadership
Establish and communicate a clear vision that advances the department to national prominence.
Align departmental strategy with the College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center strategic priorities.
Foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, accountability, and inclusion.
Recruit, retain, and mentor exceptional faculty, division leaders, and trainees.
Strengthen cross-disciplinary partnerships across clinical departments and research institutes.
Clinical Excellence
Ensure delivery of outstanding imaging and interventional services across all hospital and ambulatory sites.
Oversee practice management, quality, safety, and operational performance.
Partner with health system leadership to expand innovative inpatient and outpatient imaging programs.
Advance and refine a nationally recognized academic tele-radiology model that expands access, enhances subspecialty expertise, supports faculty flexibility, and strengthens the department’s national footprint, while preserving a robust on-site academic culture.
Support integration of advanced imaging technologies and augmented intelligence tools into clinical workflows.
Research Advancement
Expand the department’s extramural funding portfolio and national research ranking.
Develop strategic research priorities in collaboration with institutional leadership.
Support growth in imaging sciences, augmented intelligence, translational research, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
Leverage institutional resources, including the Wright Center of Innovation in Biomedical Imaging, to accelerate discovery and translational impact.
Education and Faculty Development
Ensure excellence in residency and fellowship training programs.
Promote innovative curricula and accreditation compliance across all programs.
Establish clear pathways for faculty mentorship, promotion, and tenure.
Support recruitment and development of clinician-scientists and academic radiologists.

Academic eminence in radiology
A breadth of experience and expertise across clinical, research, and education in radiology. Reputation and stature as a regional, national and/or international leader in radiology.
Administrative and operational management experience
Experience managing departmental, divisional, and/or practice budgets and/or P&Ls. Demonstrated knowledge of the complex financial pressures facing academic medical centers and health care delivery organizations.
Faculty and learners leadership and development
Successful record of recruiting, developing, and mentoring faculty at all levels and backgrounds, as well as fellows and residents, to advance their career goals and achievements.
External leadership
Demonstrated ability to cultivate successful partnerships with fellow academic physicians, health system leadership, community physicians, industry collaborators, and donors.
Education and Credentials
M.D. or D.O. active board certification in radiology. Specialty training, credentialing, and other relevant advanced degrees are additive. Eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio.
