The Patient Services Coordinator performs a variety of food service functions, including supervising staff in the absence of the production manager and assuring accurate and timely delivery of patient meal trays. This will be a working position. This position monitors adherence to department and hospital policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and food safety/sanitation standards in food service daily operations.

A. Reports to: General Manager, Patient Services Manager, and Production Manager B. Supervises: Nutrition Services Leads, staff when managers are off. C. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. Provides for direction, supervision and scheduling of all food service personnel. Utilizes leadership skills in managing change, supporting staff, and encouraging a positive climate. B. Quality control of all food items according to therapeutic diets, standardized recipes, menus and service guidelines including quality and appearance. C. Follows HACCP techniques and other food safety guidelines in preparation, storage, handling, holding of all food items including leftovers and ensures all food standards are met (food temperatures, serving times, documentation). Covers, dates, and labels all food items in storage. Rotates food products and other items on a “first-in, first-out” basis. D. Assists with catered functions as needed. E. Demonstrates ability to operate and maintain all equipment in work unit according to skills checklist and/or operating manual. Checks equipment to ensure proper operation and reports any problems to Department Managers, or maintenance by completing a work order. F. Receives money from the safe in accordance with cash handling procedure. Maintains cash drawer and reports discrepancies to the supervisor immediately. G. Demonstrates effective communication skills by respectfully sharing necessary information to customers, co-workers and supervisors in a timely manner. Provides assistance to customers and co-workers in a courteous and cooperative manner (i.e. customer complaints, concerns, and questions). When necessary, offers service recovery. H. Communicates with Production Manager about daily operations (i.e. safety concerns, training needs, disciplinary actions, patient and customer concerns. I. Assures adequate staffing levels for oncoming shifts, monitors workload, and ensures all work is completed prior to the end of employee shifts. J. Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations. K. Obtain Safe SERV certificate L. Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of MercyOne Medical Center – North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors. M. Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. N. Performs other responsibilities as requested by manager, or department head.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
A. May be requested to transport food items between campuses using hospital vehicle.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education [formal]: 1. High school diploma or equivalent certificate preferred. B. Experience: 1. 3 years' experience in food service required. 2. Prior supervisory experience preferred. C. Special Skills and Competencies: 1. Effective verbal and written communication skills. 2. Ability to perform detailed assignments, follow directions, work under pressure, and readily adapt to change in routine and work assignments. 3. Ability to evaluate a problem or situation and take action after analyzing the options. 4. Proven leadership skills. 5. Positive, optimistic and supportive personality to lead others. 6. Basic computer skills preferred (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Completes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years
