Title: Chief Hazard Analyst
Location: Independence, MO

Salary: $103,300-134,000
Schedule: 9/80 schedule

 

Focus: The Chief Hazard Analyst serves as the site's lead technical expert for explosives hazard analysis, process safety management, and risk assessment activities. This role provides guidance and leadership in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating hazards associated with ammunition and energetic material manufacturing operations. The position partners closely with Engineering, Operations, EHS, and Program Management teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Winchester explosives safety standards while supporting safe and efficient facility operations.

Chief Hazard Analyst Essential Functions:

  • Manage teams across the plant to review and update Process Hazard Analyses per OSHA 5-year revalidations.

  • Develop Process Hazard Analyses for new processes.

  • Provide Hazard Analysis support for MOC and Joint Explosives Committee reviews. Update procedures as needed.

  • Own the facility's eMOC (electronic Management of Change) system, including providing guidance to on-plant users and reviewing submitted MOCs

  • Provide Hazard Analysis support at project Design Reviews.

  • Create and/or review Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for new processes/equipment.

  • Provide Hazard Analysis support for incident investigations.

  • Coordinate sensitivity/propagation/compatibility lab testing as needed.

  • Serve as a member of the Explosive Testing Users Group (ETUG) and attend the annual conference as needed.

  • Identify and make Winchester Explosives Safety Standards revisions as needed per new hazards; present and request approval for changes at Joint Explosives Committee meetings.

Chief Hazard Analyst Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree* in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 4+ years of experience in process safety, explosives safety, hazard analysis, engineering, or related technical disciplines.

  • 3+ years performing Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), risk assessments, FMEAs, fault-tree analyses, or incident investigations are preferred.

  • Experience with ammunition and explosives manufacturing, testing, or safety programs is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Location-Specific Requirements: 

  • Must have a valid US Driver’s License.

  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls if required. 

  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies.
