Role: Senior Investigator Grade: Service NSW Grade 9/10 Employment Type: Ongoing – Full-time Location: Sydney, Parramatta or Gosford (Flexible Work Options Available). Hybrid working 2 days per week in an approved office This role sits within the Fraud Investigations and Intelligence Team in the Enterprise, Risk and Enablement Division. About the Role Lead a high‑performing investigations team protecting the integrity of public funds. Service NSW processes billions of dollars in transactions on behalf of NSW Government agencies each year—and protecting the integrity of those funds is critical. As a Senior Investigator within the Fraud Investigations and Intelligence Team, you will lead and develop a high‑performing team tackling complex fraud across major grants, rebates and voucher programs. In a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment, you’ll set direction, uplift capability and work closely with law‑enforcement partners to ensure public money reaches only those who are entitled to it. Your day-to-day Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing team of investigators, setting clear priorities, allocating work and maintaining high professional and evidentiary standards Oversee complex fraud investigations across grants, rebates and voucher programs, ensuring matters are progressed efficiently and outcomes are legally sound Provide expert guidance on investigative strategy, evidence gathering and brief preparation, including statements and affidavits for referral to law‑enforcement agencies Build and maintain effective partnerships with law enforcement and internal stakeholders to support strong investigation and prosecution outcomes Identify emerging fraud risks, trends and systemic issues, and contribute to intelligence‑led approaches that prevent fraud before it occurs Provide timely, strategic advice to senior leaders on high‑risk matters, operational challenges and opportunities to uplift team capability and performance Key Accountabilities Provide strategic leadership and oversight of complex fraud investigations, ensuring outcomes are legally sound, defensible and aligned with organisational risk priorities Lead, coach and develop a team of investigators, building capability, professionalism and consistency in investigative practice Exercise sound judgement on high‑risk matters, including escalation, litigation, referrals and enforcement options, balancing regulatory integrity with customer and reputational impacts Use intelligence, evidence and emerging fraud trends to inform investigation strategies and contribute to preventative, intelligence‑led responses Build and maintain effective partnerships with law enforcement, regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders to support successful prosecution and disruption outcomes Provide clear, evidence‑based advice to senior leaders on significant fraud matters, regulatory risks and opportunities to improve systems, controls and performance To be successful in this role you will demonstrate: Significant experience leading complex fraud, compliance or regulatory investigations, with the authority and judgement to manage sensitive, high‑risk and high‑profile matters Proven leadership capability, including coaching and capability uplift of investigation teams in dynamic, high‑volume environments Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to interpret intelligence, identify emerging fraud risks and shape investigation and prevention strategies Deep understanding of legislative frameworks, evidentiary requirements and enforcement pathways, including litigation and referrals to law‑enforcement agencies Highly developed stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated success influencing senior leaders and partnering with law‑enforcement and regulatory bodies Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear, confident, evidence‑based advice to senior leaders and executives on risk, outcomes and organisational priorities Demonstrated capability to use a wide range of systems and data sources in a risk‑based, intelligence‑led environment If you believe you have the skills and experience and meet the essential requirements, we’d love to hear from you!
