Company Description
Boskalis is a leading global dredging and marine contractor. We design and build infrastructure in and around water, such as ports, waterways, offshore energy installations and coastal protection projects. We also develop and operate a large fleet of specialised vessels to carry out this work worldwide. Working at Boskalis means contributing to solutions that support global trade, enable the energy transition and protect coastlines. In a world where population growth, rising energy demand and climate change are key challenges, we create innovative, sustainable solutions for complex maritime projects.
Job Description
Imagine working on a vessel from idea to reality. Starting with a concept, reviewing designs and seeing it come to life somewhere in the world. As a Central Fleet Trainee in Papendrecht, you help develop Boskalis’ fleet by working on impactful projects that push the boundaries of what’s possible.
What you can expect
As a trainee, you will work on engineering projects across our fleet organisation worldwide, covering different project phases from early engineering and design to construction, testing and sea trials. Alternating between office-based work at our headquarters in Papendrecht and project locations or shipyards abroad, you will gain broad insight into vessel development and operation.
Depending on your assignment, you could be involved in the construction of new vessels at shipyards in China or Turkey, support technical upgrades to existing vessels, or help prepare vessels for complex international projects. For example, Boskalis recently developed and built a large dredging vessel for the Dead Sea — a project that required a temporary shipyard to be constructed on site.
The programme
The 12-month Fleet Traineeship prepares you for a role as a Project Engineer within our fleet organisation, coordinating technical work throughout different project phases. As a trainee, you will set development goals and work on them throughout the programme. Focused on personal and professional development, you’ll complete two tailored assignments. During your traineeship, you will work with experienced colleagues, receive guidance from a mentor and follow training courses.
Qualifications
You are excited to start your career within Boskalis and make your mark. Furthermore, you have:
- A BSc or MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Control Systems Engineering, or similar.
- Affinity with technical systems, vessels or maritime environments.
- Willingness to travel abroad, also for longer periods, and work flexible hours when required.
- A good command of spoken and written English.
This vacancy is open for candidates living in the Netherlands.
Rewarding conditions
At Boskalis, you work in an international and hands-on environment where you contribute to complex projects and take on responsibility from an early stage. We offer a strong combination of learning opportunities and attractive employment conditions, including:
- A competitive salary.
- 26 vacation days (based on a full-time contract), a number of collective scheduled days off and a holiday allowance.
- A non-contributory pension scheme and additional collective benefits.
- Access to training and courses at the Boskalis Academy.
- Young Boskalis: a network of young professionals offering social and sporting activities.
