Job Description

Status: Part Time

Shift: 32 hours per week - variable/flexible schedule

Exempt: Yes 

Summary:

This role is responsible for coordinating the Shock/Trauma Injury Prevention Program and managing trauma registry operations. The role supports regulatory compliance, trauma performance improvement, injury prevention initiatives, and community education through accurate data management and structured outreach activities. Responsibilities are performed in accordance with organizational policies and applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards.

 

Other information:

· Experience, Knowledge and Skill:

1. Registered Nurse (RN) with Associate’s (ADN) or Bachelor’s (BSN) degree in nursing.

2. Minimum of three years of trauma-related nursing experience (e.g. Emergency Department, Critical Care, or IP nursing unit caring for trauma patients) or injury prevention program experience

3. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

4. Ability to use trauma registry software (training provided after hire).

5. Ability to organize work, manage priorities, communicate effectively, and work independently.

6. Attendance at trauma registrar and injury prevention conferences as required.

· Specialized or Technical Education Required (Injury Prevention):

1. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

2. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) (may be obtained within 6 months of hire).

3. Completion of the following certifications within twelve months of hire, contingent on training availability:

i. Stop the Bleed Instructor

ii. Sudden Impact Instructor

iii. Fall Prevention Education

iv. Child Passenger Safety Technician

· Specialized or Technical Education Required (Registrar):

1. Completion of the following courses within 12 months of hire:

i. Trauma Registrar,

ii. ICD‑10,

iii. AIS Coding

2. CAISS certification is optional and may be obtained after hire.

3. Maintain continuing education as required by the American College of Surgeons.

· Manual or Physical Skill Required:

1. Ability to lift to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying items related to the assigned job duties.

· Contacts:

1. Frequent professional interaction with the public, external agencies, and community organizations as a representative of North Oaks Medical Center and the Shock/Trauma Department.

2. Frequent interaction with hospital departments and personnel, including executive administration.

· Responsibilities:

1. Responsibility for the Safety of Others: Responsibility for maintaining safety of facilities and equipment.

2. Responsibility for Company Funds or Property: Responsible for inventory, supplies, minor equipment, and both movable and fixed assets.

3. Responsibility for Confidential Information: Direct access to protected health information, financial data, proprietary organizational processes, procedures or strategy, employee financial and demographic information. Must always safeguard and preserve confidentiality of all such confidential or proprietary information in accordance with applicable hospital policies, laws, rules and regulations. Must ensure employees also strictly maintain such confidentiality standards.

4. Expected to perform duties independently without immediate supervision while remaining within organizational policy and scope of authority.

    Responsibilities:

    · Injury Prevention Program Responsibilities (high level list, not all inclusive):

    1. Assist with planning, implementation, and evaluation of injury prevention initiatives.

    2. Coordinate community education programs and outreach activities for Region 9.

    3. Serve as liaison with hospitals, public health agencies, community organizations, and external partners.

    4. Review trauma data to identify injury trends and support data-informed prevention strategies.

    5. Develop and distribute injury prevention educational materials.

    6. Provide education, training, and technical assistance to healthcare providers and community groups.

    7. Participate in hospital, regional, and state meetings and emergency preparedness activities.

    8. Represent the trauma program at community events as assigned.

    9. Assist with mass casualty incidents and trauma activations when directed.

    10. Any other duties assigned by leadership

    · Trauma Registry Responsibilities (high level list, not all inclusive):

    1. Abstract, code, validate, and enter trauma patient data into the registry accurately and timely.

    2. Complete trauma registry records within 60 days of patient discharge.

    3. Assign injury codes using current AIS and ICD-10 standards.

    4. Perform routine data quality assurance and validation activities.

    5. Prepare and submit required reports, including NTDB submissions.

    6. Generate statistical reports for Trauma Operations and Performance Improvement meetings.

    7. Support trauma performance improvement and research data abstraction.

    8. Coordinate with Information Technology to ensure registry system functionality and data security.

    9. Monitor and report compliance-related metrics including SBIRT/ITSS and alcohol testing.

    10. Any other duties assigned by leadership
