Job Description
Did you know that our Macraes mine has been operating for 35 years and is the largest mining operation in New Zealand? With further growth planned, mine life is expected to grow, providing our employees with excellent career growth opportunities. The Senior Advisor – Environment is responsible for coordinating and providing functional environmental support to the Macraes Operation. This role ensures compliance with statutory acts, regulations, consent conditions and company environmental standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist the operation to meet all regulatory and OceanaGold requirements, standards, and guidelines.
- Coach and develop direct reports to meet or exceed expected performance levels through the development and review of goals.
- Liaise with personnel, consultants, auditors, and legal advisors to ensure company environmental performance and targets are achieved.
- Provide specialist environmental advice to projects and the operations team as required. Represent the Environmental team at site meetings, to ensure high a high focus on environmental impacts.
- Present environmental focused information to external stakeholders, working proactively in partnership to ensure quality relationships are maintained.
- Monitoring, assessment, and reporting of environmental aspects of the Macraes Operation.
- Support the preparation of consent applications as the business operations require.
- Consult the site team of any non-compliances, non-conformances or environmental irregularities and assist in resolving these.
- Ensure appropriate management of covenants in line with consent conditions and relevant management plans.
- Succession planning, professional development & ensuring training plans are in place to meet safety and environmental requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a tertiary qualification in Environmental or Earth Sciences, Resource Management or similar.
- Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles and 4WD’s is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years cumulative post graduate experience, with a minimum of 3 years work experience in a regulatory monitoring environment.
- Mining industry experience preferred, though other heavy industry experience will be considered.
- Skills in a mixture of Biodiversity, Water, Closure, Hazardous Substances Management, Vibration, Climate Change and Tailings Storage Facilities management.
