Job Description

Actively contribute towards Haile Gold Mine achieving a continuous improvement model of health and safety management and performance through support, development and coaching of the H&S advisors, contractors, employees, and management to meet the required H&S Standards, processes, and procedures.

In this role you’ll operate as a trusted safety partner across site, supporting both employees and contractors.

  • Lead field-based risk management through inspections, coaching, and visible safety leadership (JHA’s, Stop & Think etc. Pre-Op Inspections Work Area Inspections)
  • Work closely with department managers to foster our safety culture and alignment to our processes and procedures.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries to identify root causes and preventative actions.
  • Support and enhance the Health & Safety Management Systems (Inx, Forwood) including procedures, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives (Including. Our Safe Behavious).
  • Support occupational exposure programs and hygiene monitoring
  • Analyse safety and health data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and company standards
  • Maintain emergency preparedness
  • Assist with all MSHA inspections
  • Conducts audits, workplace inspections, and assurance activities across site
  • Partner with leaders to deliver practical, actionable safety insights, not just reports.
  • Contribute to safety training (New Miner, Annual Refresher, Hazard Training) and capability building across the workforce
  • Support contractor safety alignment and performance across department
  • Performs other duties as required including “on call” support. Where needed

Qualifications

  • MSHA Blue Card (Part 48) Preferred or able obtain in 12 months
  • First Aid & CPR Certified- Preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • 5+ years in mining, 2 years Underground mining preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of MSHA regulations and site compliance
  • Risk management frameworks and field based safety practices
  • Experience with incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Safety Management Systems (ISO exposure is a plus)
  • Exposure to auditing (internal/external)
  • Experience working with contractors in operational environments
  • Ability to translate data into clear, practical actions
  • Occupational Health & Hygiene monitoring – preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
  • Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.
