Description
The Senior Production Supervisor manages the daily operations and personnel within the assigned production departments and oversees the production sanitation processes and sanitation personnel. This includes ensuring all necessary components/resources are available and capable to meet and improve established quality standards and goals, and that all department operations are in compliance with cGMP and OSHA regulations, and company SOP’s. Responsible for meeting production schedules and goals. Directly responsible for managing the daily activities of production leads by providing training, direction, guidance, counseling, and disciplinary action when necessary. Will also initiate employee hiring, promotion, transfer, or discharge. Serves as a mentor to leads through training and leadership. Coordinates with other department managers and supervisors to ensure a smooth and cohesive operation
Operating Schedules:
12 hour shift overnight- weekend
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the daily activities of production leads and operators in accordance with compliance, quality, and the Master Schedule productivity goals.
- Responsible for the completions and accuracy of all controlled production documents, including MDR, MMR, etc. before submitting them to the next section or department.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide ongoing written and oral direction and clarity to production leads and operators.
- Responsible for scheduling production activities as planned, including personnel, hours, and equipment utilization, and making adjustments as necessary to meeting production schedule and goals.
- Ensures all necessary components and resources are available to meet production requirements in compliance with established quality standards and goals.
- Continually updates Operations leadership on compliance issues, quality, production goals, and equipment.
- Demonstrates the ability to review production activities and compare to production plan to assist in the elimination of backorders and ensure the proper inventory of finished goods is maintained.
- Ensures production equipment and work areas are cGMP compliant.
- Assists in coordinating with Quality Assurance and lab personnel to ensure that quality issues are addressed in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates the ability to create, review and approve manufacturing procedures in accordance with cGMP and Thorne guidelines.
- Under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Operations ensures Credentialed Training program (including safety training and forklift certification) is met. Further ensures training is reasonably continuous, timely, and conducted before employees begin new tasks. Ensures that department training records are kept up-to-date. Monitors the production certification program and ensures cross training.
- Develops teamwork with other functional groups, communicates goals throughout the department, sets the pace and is proactive.
- Demonstrates the ability to audit all areas of operation for safety concerns and ensures PPE is available and properly used by all workers.
- Keeps Senior Vice President, Operations informed about potential threats, opportunities, and recommended actions.
- Builds and leads a high -performing team, secures the best talent, develops and strengthens staff and future leaders, and provides ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Conducts formal and informal performance assessments of staff, including performance versus expectations and goals, behaviors, and leadership potential, and seeks the same for self.
WHAT YOU NEED
- By training, education and/or experience, employee must be able to perform the essential duties of the job. Bachelor’s degree preferred. High School/GED required. 5+ years’ experience required. Experience with FDA, ISO and/or cGMP standards preferred. Experience in building and leading high-performance team desirable.
- Comprehensive understanding of dietary supplement manufacturing principles and practices, machinery and equipment, staffing and training, quality and regulatory requirements, key performance metrics and measurements.
- Supervises and manages others, delegate appropriately, and follow-up on work assignments.
- Assesses talent, hires new staff, conducts formal and informal performance assessments, and addresses employee nonperformance.
- Develops and delivers on assigned objectives within requested timeframes.

- Must be able to safely work with ingredients and products that are derived from possible allergenic sources including but not limited to nuts, soy, dairy, fish, and shellfish.
- Must be able to work an entire shift, when necessary, in an enclosed room.
- Must be able to work while using a half-mask respirator or a full-air respirator for up to four hours at a time and be able to follow Thorne Research’s Respiratory Protection Program guidelines.
- Must be able to work in a stationary position as well as move about unassisted.
- Must be able to safely and carefully operate and use assigned production equipment and machinery.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as circumstances arise during the course of a shift.
- Must be able to operate, activate, use, prepare, and clean production equipment, occasionally grasping with force and using twisting wrist movements.
- Must have sufficient range of motion with arms and hands to reach overhead and to the side, often repetitively, during a 12-, 10- or 8-hour shift.
- Must be able to hear and converse with supervisors and other employees.
- Must be able to see and read small print.
- Must be able to work in a moderate noise level environment.
- Must be able to work a 12-, 10- or 8-hour shift and overtime as assigned.
- Must be able to move or lift items weighing up to 55 pounds from floor to table and from table to floor, often repetitively, during a 12-, 10- or 8-hour shift.
- Must be able to ascend/descend a ladder while carrying up to 20 pounds of materials.
- Mixing areas: Must be able to lift unassisted approximately 30kg (66 pounds) from floor to table and from table to shoulder height on a regular basis.
