The UNM Real Estate Department offers an exciting opportunity to maintain the financial operations of UNM’s diverse real estate portfolio, which includes over 1.35 million square feet of leased space and approximately $15 million in annual rent obligations. From office space to research labs, you’ll be part of a team that supports all entities under the Regents of the University of New Mexico, including academic, research, clinic, and hospital units. We are seeking an experienced accounting professional who brings a strong analytical mindset and a focus on problem-solving with interest in expanding their scope over time and contributing to financial management and strategic support. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting background in real estate or a related field, enjoys digging into the details, has exceptional organizational skills, and a proven ability to lead and support team members. This role is essential in overseeing accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and the effective management of financial processes. What You’ll Be Doing: Oversees daily processing and accounting for revenue and expenditures by department; reviews and reports financial transactions; ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance with university, local, state, and federal requirements, and standard accounting and audit procedures. Monitors and maintains key accounting information for the operating unit within the finance system, including aging reports, reconciliations in Banner and Yardi, capital spend down, budgeting and salary adjustments for monthly, mid-year, and year-end reporting. Oversee budget development and full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring proper coding, approvals and timely processing. Interprets and analyzes financial operations and transactions, forecasts trends, and develops special complex reports and analyses for department and university leadership. Monitors and maintains appropriate revenue levels by actions such as internal account transfers, interdepartmental transfers, and collections of accounts receivable. Manages complex accounting and asset management database systems; balances and maintains ledgers for the automated financial and human resource management systems.
