Job Summary:
The Team Leader is responsible for managing a shift within the sorting center, ensuring efficient parcel processing, quality standards, and cost targets are met. This role plays a critical part in frontline execution and team performance. Additionally, the Team Leader acts as a deputy to the Operations Manager when required, ensuring full operational continuity, decision-making, and coordination across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
Shift Operations Management Lead and coordinate daily sorting operations (inbound, sorting, outbound) Ensure achievement of key KPIs: throughput, scan compliance, error rate, dispatch timeliness Monitor real-time flow and adjust manpower allocation based on volume fluctuations Ensure proper use of sorting equipment and system tools
Team Leadership & People Management Manage, coach, and motivate a team of operators and line leads Conduct daily briefings (start/end of shift) and communicate targets clearly Monitor attendance, productivity, and discipline Identify training needs and develop team capabilities
Performance & Continuous Improvement Track and analyze shift performance (productivity, cost per parcel, quality) Identify root causes of issues (delays, mis-sorts, backlog) and implement corrective actions Support process optimization and cost reduction initiatives Drive a culture of accountability and performance
Deputy Operations Manager Responsibilities Act as Operations Manager during absence (shift or full day coverage) Take ownership of site-wide coordination across inbound, sorting, and outbound flows Manage escalations (volume spikes, system issues, staffing shortages) Make operational decisions impacting service level and cost Coordinate with cross-functional teams (linehaul, last mile, maintenance, HR) Ensure reporting and communication to upper management
Health, Safety & Compliance Enforce all safety protocols on the floor Ensure compliance with operational SOPs and labor regulations Lead by example in maintaining a safe and organized work environment
Key Requirements:
Experience in a sorting center, warehouse, or logistics hub (high-volume environment preferred)
Strong leadership and ability to manage teams of 20–50+ operators Solid understanding of operational KPIs (productivity, quality, cost per parcel)
Ability to handle pressure, fast-paced decisions, and unexpected volume changes
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Good communication and coordination abilities
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in automated or semi-automated sorting centers Proven experience acting as shift leader or deputy manager Familiarity with WMS / sorting systems and performance dashboards
