Pay Grade: 860 (Min $371.60 per day)

Primary Purpose:
Maintain primary responsibility for the development and implementation of the special education services for students who are eligible to receive special education services. Serve as supervisor for special education instructional and related services staff not assigned to a specific campus. Consult with teachers, principals, staff and advisory committees regarding program development and implementation
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Master's Degree - preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Understanding of all federal, state, and local requirements associated with special education services
- Knowledgeable of Plano ISD district curriculum and scientifically-based best practices in academic instruction and behavior supports
- Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Minimum of three years teaching experience in special education and/or background & experience in area of assignment
- Two years in an instructional leadership role preferred
- Knowledge and experience with curriculum design and development at the secondary level
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assume responsibility for the organization and operation of work within the area of supporting students and staff working with special education students following federal program guidelines as directed by the district and as specified in 34 Code of Federal Regulations �300.208 (a)(1)
Instructional Management
- Promote and support efforts to help each child develop a sense of self-worth
- Evaluate and recommend improvement in the purposes, design, materials, and implementation of the instructional and other support programs
- Facilitate the planning and application of emerging technologies in the classroom
- Assist teachers effectively in designing learning experiences for students
- Guide and support teachers in interpretation and use of evaluation information, data entry in IEP database, facilitate and support campus program design and ARD meetings

- Communicate and support expectations that are consistent with district objectives
- Deal consistently and equitably with all personnel by employing effective interpersonal skills
- Employ an effective communication process that includes listening to all constituents
School/Organizational Improvement
- Obtain and use evaluative findings, including student achievement data, to examine program/service effectiveness
- Ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs
Personnel Management
- Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness
- Design, implement and approve professional development opportunities and/or improvement plans to ensure the best implementation of special education services
- Collaborate with area universities and training programs to assist the district in recruitment and hiring of needed special education instructional and related services staff
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
- Comply with all laws, rules, and policies related to fiscal management of special education funds
- Report to Director of Special Education on the status of performance and outcomes related to special education
- Prepare and submit all financial and facilities reports as needed
Student Management
- Promote collaborative teaming by working with faculty and encouraging student-parent input to develop a more positive school climate
- Enhance special education services by conducting conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning vital issues
Professional Growth and Development
- Take the initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to job assignments
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role model for all district staff
- Utilize sign language skills to communicate with the hearing impaired students, parents, and staff members if appropriate to assignment
- Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from superiors
- Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor
- Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor
School/Community Relations
- Communicate clearly the district's needs and programs to the parents and the community and respond to their concerns in a timely manner
- Involve students, parents, and others from the community as volunteers, advisors, and aides
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct and evaluate a group of itinerant special education employees

- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions; maintain emotional control under stress
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions
