Primary Purpose:
Serves as intervention specialist for struggling math students. Assists teachers with instructional methodologies.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree
Master's degree PREFERRED
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction framework for math
Ability to organize and coordinate district initiatives and programs for special needs of students
Knowledge of Response to Intervention (RTI), Section 504 and SpEd processes and implementation protocol
Strong communication and team-building skills
Ability to deliver professional development to teachers
Ability to interact positively with students, parents, and educators
Experience:
Three years or more of successful teaching experience required
Successful experience working with at-risk students
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management and Instructional Strategies:
- Provide support services for students experiencing mathematics difficulties.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Analyze student data to determine appropriate and effective intervention.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Provide appropriate instructional interventions for identified students.
- Model math lessons, strategies and effective classroom management.
- Meet with teachers on a regular basis to document Response to Intervention and accelerated math strategies and processes being used with struggling students.
- Assist teachers in disaggregating and analyzing data.
- Implement Math interventions beyond what is done in the classroom.
- Use technology to accelerate math development of struggling reading students.
- Serve as a resource for professional materials and instructional strategies/materials.
- Attend staff development, disseminate information and serve as a trainer of teachers during District workshops.
- Provide support for campus mathematics initiatives.
Campus Planning and Communication:
- Work cooperatively with others regarding individual student needs.
- Conduct conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers, as necessary.
- Assist campus leadership in conducting needs assessment and campus planning in thearea of overall student achievement in Math.
- Ensure progress toward meeting campus goals for student performance in Math.
- Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Other duties as assigned.
