General Description
The Coordinator of Special Education supports districtwide compliance with state and federal regulations while promoting improved academic achievement and performance outcomes for students with disabilities. The coordinator provides leadership, guidance, and program oversight to ensure high-quality special education services across K�12 and postgraduate programs, including Early Childhood Special Education.
Supervision
Works under the direction of the Director of Student Services.
Essential Functions
Program Coordination and Oversight
- Assists the Director of Student Services in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs, services, activities, and curriculum for students with disabilities.
- Coordinates districtwide special education programs and initiatives as assigned.
- Coordinates the delivery of special education and related services for eligible students in K�12 and postgraduate programs.
- Supervises the Early Childhood Special Education program, working collaboratively with the Part C program and other Early Childhood interagency partners.
- Oversees Child Find activities to ensure timely identification, referral, and evaluation of eligible children.
- Chairs Early Childhood Eligibility Meetings as required.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with IDEA Indicators 6, 7, and 12 related to early childhood transition, preschool outcomes, and timelines.
- Collaborates with district and school staff to ensure consistency, effectiveness, and alignment of special education services across buildings and programs.
Instructional Support and Best Practices
- Collaboratively designs and promotes best-practice approaches for students requiring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Assists with monitoring the fidelity of special education program implementation.
- Provides guidance and support to building administrators and Special Education Liaisons in addressing student-specific concerns and instructional needs.
- Monitors and analyzes district, school, and student data to identify trends, provide targeted support, and make data-informed recommendations to improve student outcomes.
Professional Learning and Capacity Building
- Develops and facilitates targeted professional development for general education teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and Special Education Liaisons.
- Provides ongoing coaching, guidance, and technical assistance to support effective implementation of special education practices, procedures, and legal requirements.
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight
- Interprets and ensures compliance with federal and state laws and regulations governing special education.
- Maintains current knowledge of developments and changes in special education law, regulations, and guidance.
- Monitors district and school compliance with regulatory requirements and provides guidance, professional development, and corrective action support as needed.
- Assists in the development, revision, and implementation of special education policies and procedures to support compliance and continuous program improvement.
- Prepares and submits required documentation and information for state and federal reports.
Problem Resolution and Stakeholder Support
- Supports building administrators and Special Education Liaisons in resolving procedural, programmatic, and student-related concerns.
- Assists in preventing special education dispute resolution by attending meetings and supporting collaborative problem-solving as necessary.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration among families, schools, district staff, and community partners.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serves on district committees, task forces, and interagency teams as directed by the Director of Student Services.
- Performs other duties related to special education leadership and program improvement as assigned.
Salary Scale - Instructional Coordinator Scale - $71,273 - $119,582
