Job Summary
The Chinese Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Instructional Specialist supports the implementation of the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Chinese DLI Model in schools in Granite School District. The specialist is responsible for supporting Chinese DLI schools in instruction and assessment, facilitating the use of instructional materials and resources, providing coaching and professional development, informing state and local policy, supporting international teachers in their transition to Utah, and further community outreach efforts. The position works closely with the DLI Bridge program at the university level.
This position supports DLI schools throughout Granite School District and therefore requires a significant amount of travel.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the implementation of high-quality Chinese DLI programs within Granite School District.
- Support community outreach activities to increase awareness, understanding, and participation in DLI programs.
- Maintain strong channels of communication with each school's principal and/or instructional coach and DLI teachers.
- Establish school-level DLI instructional and program priorities in collaboration with the school principal and/or instructional coach.
- Provide one-to-one or small group coaching support for DLI teachers in collaboration with the school principal and/or instructional coach.
- Develop and implement professional learning opportunities for Granite DLI teachers that are aligned to the district/schools' DLI priorities.
- Support schools in administering, analyzing, interpreting, and sharing assessments results with district leaders, principals, coaches, teachers, parents, and students.
- Assist in developing instructional materials to support the implementation of the Chinese DLI program in grades K-12.
- Support with screening and welcoming international teachers to staff the DLI programs throughout the district.
- Support with planning and conducting multiple professional development series for DLI schools and teachers every year.
- Support with providing mentoring and support to DLI teachers, principals and coaches.
- Collaboration and teamwork with other DLI specialists with the district.
- Complete all assigned duties and special assignments in a timely, professional, and satisfactory manner.

Required Knowledge and Skills
- Extensive knowledge of the Utah DLI Model.
- Expertise in implementing effective dual language immersion pedagogy.
- Understanding of world language Advanced Placement testing and assessment.
- Understanding of the STAMP Assessment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Skills in teaching and facilitating the learning of adult learners.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional learning in related to student learning and achievement, including content areas that may be outside of the applicant's current skill set.
- Ability to work collaboratively and individually on assigned tasks.
- Proficiency in the use of technology and instructional media tools.
Required Education and Qualifications
- Requires one of the following:
- a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with the following professional-level credentials:
- Elementary or Secondary License Area of Concentration;
- Chinese endorsement; or
- Dual Immersion endorsement; or
- an equivalent license in another state or country.
- a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with the following professional-level credentials:
Individuals with an equivalent license must also upload a copy of their American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)/Language Testing International (LTI) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) in Chinese. The OPI must have a score of Advanced Mid or higher to be considered.
Required Prior Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience teaching Chinese Dual Immersion at the elementary, secondary or university level.
