Position Summary:
Westmont High School is seeking a dedicated, collaborative, student-athlete-centered athletic trainer to facilitate and support the success of the Sentinel athletic program by ensuring all student-athletes are healthy and safe as they participate in extra-curricular and interscholastic athletic events.
Qualifications:
- Hold and maintain a National Athletic Trainer's Board Certification and an Illinois State Licensure.
- Ability to communicate (written/verbal), make decisions, resolve conflicts, and effectively work with staff, students, families, and other stakeholders to develop a successful training program
- Ability to work in an office environment as well as indoor and outdoor athletic venues, while standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and occasional lifting for extended periods of time.
- Complete tasks timely and thoroughly.
- Experience with software programs in Word, Excel, Google Apps for Educators, etc.
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal directions
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and direct the work of the Athletic Training program at Westmont High School.
- Supervise athletes' workouts, practices, games, summer camps, and rehabilitation
- Think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions for student athletes, per state and federal guidelines
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and best practices for sports-related injuries and treatment of such injuries, including when to refer a student athlete to a doctor
- Document, monitor, and communicate with parents/coaches and the school nurse regarding athletes' injuries, treatment plans, and progress towards recovery
- Proactively build and maintain relationships throughout the community that allow ease of access and streamlining of care for athletes.
- Maintain strong professional relationships and communication with the school Athletic Director, coaches, administration, teachers, and parents.
- Establish and maintain a working relationship with a designated team physician and community physicians.
- Lead the concussion protocol team, ensuring compliance with IHSA and school board policies, and implement protocol with any related injuries
- Administer and maintain concussion baseline and testing results for student athletes
- Ensure general upkeep and protection of equipment and supplies for the athletic training program
- Complete the necessary paperwork for purchasing and all other documentation for the program
- Communicate effectively in high-stress situations
- Receive and maintain CPR/AED certification
- Train and certify staff on CPR/AED, maintain certification records, and work with the Director of Facilities to maintain all AED machines
- Monitor weather conditions and advise administration/coaches about conducting events safely and complying with IHSA heat-related policies
- Showcase a desire to connect with athletes in a respectful, positive manner.
- Assist coaches with the development of conditioning and injury prevention programs.
- Assist in the event of an injury emergency at an athletic event at Westmont Junior High School
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal
Compensation:
Salary $60,000
200 Day IMRF Employee (work calendar July 1- June 30)
15 Sick Days and 1 Personal Day
