Job Description


SCHOOL PRINCIPAL


Qualifications:

  • shall hold a bachelor's degree or higher and the required Kentucky certificate for the assigned position.
  • shall demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, peers and adults.
  • shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and faculty.


Reports To: Superintendent or Designee


Terms of Employment: Days of Employment - 240 days
This position offers 5 days of paid vacation per year in addition to the allotted sick and personal days.


 
SALARY: Commensurate with the school district's Certified Salary Schedule
 

Physical Qualifications:

  • shall have the ability to sit, stoop, possibly lift up to 50 pounds or more, and any/all body movements as related to the job description.


Job Goal:  

  • Charged with ensuring the school is focused on student improvement and in administering the school in a manner consistent with the district's and principal's belief, philosophy, policies, procedures and directives.


 
Professional Responsibilities

  • General Duties:
    • shall determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
    • shall present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the school's genuine concern with the education, growth and development of each student.
    • shall seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
    • shall work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and the community.
    • shall carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue checking.
    • shall react positively to directives.
    • shall have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals and staff.
    • shall maintain the confidentiality, both verbally and in written form, of each student's educational record.
    • shall take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

    • shall adhere to School Board of Education Policies and Procedures.

 

  • Specific Duties:
    • ensuring that academic policies and curriculum are followed
    • developing and tracking benchmarks for measuring institutional success
    • helping teachers maximize their teaching potential
    • meeting and listening to concerns of students on a regular basis
    • encouraging, guiding and assisting student leaders and teachers
    • meeting with parents and administrators on a regular basis for problem resolution
    • enforcing discipline when necessary
    • providing an atmosphere free of any bias in which students can achieve their maximum potential
