Overview
Edmonson County Schools is seeking a strategic and safety-minded Director of Transportation to lead our district's transportation operations. This leadership role ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable transport of students, overseeing everything from fleet modernization to personnel development and state regulatory compliance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Optimization: Develop and implement the district's long-range transportation goals. This includes route optimization and the formulation of safety policies for Board of Education approval.
- Fleet Management: Provide comprehensive oversight of all board-owned vehicles. You will manage life-cycle replacement schedules, execute rigorous preventative maintenance programs, and maintain meticulous service records.
- Team Leadership: Lead the recruitment, professional training, and supervision of transportation personnel, including drivers, monitors, and mechanics. Conduct annual performance evaluations to ensure a culture of excellence.
- State Compliance: Act as the district's primary liaison with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE). Ensure all state mandates, safety audits, and operational reports are filed accurately and punctually.
- Student Safety & Advocacy: Partner with school principals to maintain high standards for student conduct on buses and ensure total adherence to state and federal safety regulations.
- Fiscal Responsibility: Oversee the departmental budget, authorize expenditures, and develop technical specifications for the procurement of new equipment and vehicles.
- Operational Readiness: Continually audit all routes and turnabouts for efficiency and safety. Perform on-site road inspections during inclement weather to provide critical data to the Superintendent regarding school closures or delays.
Candidate Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Professional Experience: Proven experience in school bus operations within a public school district is essential.
- Licensure & Certification:
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid Class B CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Must maintain a valid Kentucky School Bus Driver Certificate.
- Clean driving record and ability to pass all state-mandated background checks and physical exams.
Employment Details
- Contract Term: 260 Days (Full-year; includes standard workdays, paid holidays, and vacation time as per Board policy).
Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, following the official Edmonson County Schools Classified Salary Schedule
