- Holds a bachelor's or higher degree and the required Kentucky certificate for the assigned position
- Has demonstrated the ability to work effectively with students, peers, parents and community
REPORTS TO: Director Special Education Services
JOB GOAL: The itinerant teacher of students with emotional behavior disorders will facilitate the education of each child or youth with emotional behavior disorder in the least restrictive environment appropriate to his/her needs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform or recommend appropriate specialized evaluations
- Develop and implement behavior management strategies to include interventions, contracts and behavior management plans
- Participate as a required member of any SIT (Student Intervention Team) and ARC (Admission and Release Committee) for children and youth with emotional behavior disorders
- Consult/collaborate with classroom teacher in regard to appropriate learning environment for children and youth with emotional behavior disorder
- Provide direct instruction in skills unique to a child or youth with emotional behavior disorders including social skills training
- Communicate with parents and interpret the school program
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and appropriate behavior in other school related activities as set forth by the Student Code of Conduct
- Maintain accurate and complete records and safeguard their confidentiality as required by law, District policy and administrative procedure
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and other self-selected professional growth activities
- Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with District guidelines
- Attend staff meetings and, as possible, serve on staff committees and participate in the sponsorship of pupil activities
- Maintain a professional awareness of current literature related to assignment, including working knowledge of state and federal law, Board Policy and administrative regulations
- Maintain all grades in an approved record book and turn in completed record book at the end of the school year
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s), and volunteer(s)
- Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
