Job Description

Position Summary 

The Director of Nursing is a leadership role responsible for overseeing clinical operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality home care services in compliance with North Carolina regulations, health-care accreditation standards and any other required regulatory standards. This individual will conduct assessments and reassessments of clients for both nursing services and in-home aide services, manage nursing staff, develop clinical policies, develop clinical training programs, and collaborate with other departments to support the agency’s mission. The Director of Nursing will ensure that all care provided meets regulatory standards and promotes the health and well-being of clients. The Director of Nursing will embody professionalism at all times and will maintain efficient time management. 

Key Responsibilities 

Clinical Leadership and Management 

  • Oversee the daily clinical operations of the agency, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to all clients. 

  • Develop, implement, and monitor clinical policies and procedures in accordance with North Carolina regulations and industry best practices. 

  • Supervise and support nursing staff, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities. 

  • Assist with and take lead of disciplinary action and discussions for caregivers alongside the Director of Navigation, as a united front. 

  • Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of client records, complying with all regulatory requirements. 

  • Ensure answering calls from on-call service within a timely manner. 

Compliance and Quality Assurance 

  • Ensure the agency meets and maintains clinical compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, including North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) standards. 

  • Ensure the agency meets and maintains clinical compliance with the standards and requirements set forth by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC). 

  • Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of care and client satisfaction. 

  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of clinical documentation and practices to identify areas for improvement. 

  • Address and resolve client and family concerns or complaints related to clinical care in a timely and effective manner. 

  • Ensure client files entered on the designated charting platform are discharged and admitted into the platform within a timely manner. 

  • Ensure client profiles in client chart are up to date and correct. 

  • Review client care logs and ensure completion of electronic care logs by caregivers.  

  • Complete new admission assessments, 90-day evaluations, and in-home supervisory visits as needed and on time.  

Client Care and Coordination 

  • Oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of client care plans to ensure they meet individual needs and preferences. 

  • Coordinate with healthcare providers, clients, and families to ensure seamless care transitions and comprehensive care delivery. 

  • Monitor and evaluate client outcomes to ensure effectiveness of care plans and make necessary adjustments. 

  • Participate in interdisciplinary care team meetings being held for continual updating of client care plans, exchange of information and problem solving. 

Staff Management and Development 

  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention in qualified nursing staff. Teach clinical pieces during new-hire orientations. 

  • Develop, maintain, and perform in-services. 

  • Conduct performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback, and setting goals for professional growth along-side Director of Navigation. 

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork and open communication. 

Budget and Resource Management 

  •  Ensure efficient use of resources and adherence to financial goals within the clinical/nursing department. 

  • Monitor clinical expenditures, including staffing and supply costs, and implement cost-saving measures as needed. 

  • Prepare regular reports for senior leadership, highlighting clinical performance, compliance status, and budget adherence. 

Collaboration and Community Engagement 

  • Work closely with other departments, including admissions/marketing and operations, to align clinical goals with overall agency objectives. 

  • Represent the agency in the community, building strong relationships with healthcare providers, referral sources, and regulatory agencies. 

  • Participate in community outreach and educational programs to promote the agency’s services and mission. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred. 

  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina. 

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of nursing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within a home care or healthcare setting. 

  • In-depth knowledge of North Carolina home care regulations and standards. 

  • Strong clinical skills, with the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client care. 

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement clinical policies and procedures. 

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail. 

  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and other relevant healthcare technologies. 

  • Flexibility to cover nursing assignments in emergent cases, ensuring continuous care delivery.
