
6th Grade Science Teacher
Job Description
Primary Purpose
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area of science designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society while fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate certification for 6th Grade Science or applicable grade level/content area
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of middle school science curriculum and TEKS
- Ability to instruct students and manage classroom behavior effectively
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to integrate technology into instruction
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and data-driven practices
Experience
- Student teaching or approved internship experience
- Previous middle school teaching experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with district curriculum and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
- Create engaging, hands-on science lessons and laboratory activities
- Use a variety of instructional techniques and technology to meet diverse student needs
- Analyze student data to guide instructional decisions and interventions
- Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific exploration
Classroom Management and Organization
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed for an orderly and productive classroom environment
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom and laboratory setting
- Manage student conduct in accordance with district policies and student code of conduct
Assessment
- Assess student achievement through formal and informal methods
- Provide timely feedback to students and parents regarding academic progress
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student attendance, grades, and progress
Communication
- Maintain open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and administrators
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and campus activities
- Collaborate with team members to support student achievement and campus goals
Professional Growth
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
- Stay current with instructional strategies, curriculum updates, and science education trends
- Comply with all district and campus expectations, policies, and procedures
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned teacher aide(s), if applicable
- Oversee students during classroom activities, labs, transitions, and assigned duties

*Salary commensurate with experience
*Starting Salary $66,000
Works 187 Day Calendar
*Position cannot be performed remotely
