District Translator
Job Description
DESCRIPTION: Translate written materials from English to Spanish and vice versa. Translate spoken language for district meetings. Assist with testing of limited English proficient (LEP) students and with collecting data on LEP students for state and federal reports.
SALARY: Classified Grade U, starting at $28.62 per hour, depending on recent relevant experience. 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 11 month / 232 day work schedule, paid over 12 months. Position eligible for benefits.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Translate written material from English to Spanish and vice versa.
- Assist with interpretations for district meetings, including but not limited to expulsion hearings, IEP meetings, school events, conferences and parent meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus college-level coursework in translation.
- Specialized courses in basic computer skills and word processing
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 2 to 4 years of experience in translation of written documents from English to Spanish.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Excellent grammar and spelling in Spanish and English.
- Good typing skills (45 words per minute).
- Ability to work with staff and parents.
- Operating knowledge of and experience with computers, copiers, and word processing and desk top publishing software.
