Summary: Dean of Students (Student behavior and code of conduct) at Washtenaw International High School and Middle Academy in the Washtenaw Educational Options Consortium. This role will focus on student behavioral support and serves as an active member of the school's administrative team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following:
- Lead and implement student behavior and school safety using proactive and responsive strategies including restorative practices and equity-centered trauma-informed practices in collaboration with staff and administrators
- Co-facilitate Student behavioural support and discipline practice and protocols with staff, students, and families
- Collaborate with the Principal and Associate Principal to develop mission-centered school goals, policies, and practices
- Lead student peer mediation team with restorative practices and conscious discipline strategies
- Develop, implement, evaluate, review school policies and practices including attendance, academic integrity.
- Supervise and coordinate the staffing and supervision of lunch and passing time
- Attend 3-5 or more school sponsored events (dances, concerts, dinners, honors convocation, etc.)
- Co-facilitate mentoring program for new staff (1-3 year teachers) promoting effective instruction
- Co-facilitate and evaluate graduate assistants in collaboration with administrators
- Mentor and coach staff with conscious discipline practices and protocols in collaboration with the administrative team
- Communicate positively and professionally with students, parents, staff, district leaders, and community members to promote the school's mission, vision, goals, and achievements.
- Serve on the Administrative Leadership team, including attending weekly Admin meetings
- School Leadership Team and assist in Action Teams and the School Improvement Process
- Work collaboratively with administrative team, WIHI and WIMA staff to promote the success and partnership of WIHI and WIMA
- Work to promote positive partnership with all district members of WEOC
- Support the school's Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity initiative community-wide
- Review surveillance video footage in support of school safety
- Athletic Liaison with consortium district athletic programs; communication and support related to student athletes
- Other duties as assigned by the principal
Required skills and qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years experience teaching
- Minimum of 1 year in a leadership role (class dean, department chair, mentor, etc.)
- Preferred administrative certification or in the process of admin. certification
- Preferred experience with and/or completed restorative practice training
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
- Mission-centered, equity-centered leadership skills and knowledge
- Highly principled, collaborative, and reflective
- Tenacious work ethic and exceptional efficiency and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ideal candidate has three or more years of experience leading professional learning
Additional details:
-Work school administrator calendar (210 work days) and school day of 7:25 am-3:15 pm, plus evening events as scheduled
-Attend and represent the school during extra curricular, student performance, parent engagement, and community events.
-Support an International focus across the curriculum, cross-disciplinary planning and inquiry-based learning within a focus on equity-centered, trauma informed education
-Meet instructional and compliance requirements of the International Baccalaureate program and Michigan Department of Education.
Qualifications: Valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate and administration certificate with necessary endorsement(s). Three or more years of IB teaching and leadership experience required.
Education and/or Experience: Qualification and certification to teach middle and high school. Experience, qualification and interest in cultural proficiency training and educational leadership and curriculum development.
Language Skills: Highly proficient in written and verbal communication with a particular emphasis on subject area specific competence and communications.
Technical Skills: Ability to use computer technology for research, data management, communication and other instruction. Experience with one-to-one tablet and laptop technology program.
Reasoning Ability: Highly proficient in subject area reasoning, problem solving, organizational dynamics and emotional intelligence.
Physical Demands: Capability to perform duties normally associated with secondary teaching.
