Job Description
POSITION OPEN: Varsity Girls Golf Head Coach
START DATE - 2026 Fall Season
LOCATION - Berkley High School
COMPENSATION - Category IV Starting $3,256+ commensurate with experience
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated coaching, instructional, or competitive playing experience in golf.
- Current CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain prior to first practice).
- Completion of MHSAA Coaches Advancement Program (CAP) Level 1, or willingness to complete within 60 days of hire.
- Current concussion awareness training in compliance with Michigan Public Act 342.
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based criminal history background check (at applicant expense).
- Availability for the full season, including preseason tryouts, practices, matches/tournaments, and MHSAA postseason play.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee all aspects of the girls golf program, including roster selection, practice planning, match preparation, equipment, and supervision of athletes during practices, matches, travel, and team functions.
- Plan and lead practices that develop skill, course management, mental performance, and team cohesion.
- Know and consistently enforce school, district, league, and MHSAA rules and policies.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with athletes, parents, officials, course staff, fellow coaches, administrators, and community members.
- Make the safety and welfare of athletes the top priority in the design and implementation of all practice and match activities.
- Manage the program budget; assist with fundraising and team apparel decisions as needed.
- Supervise and mentor assistant coach(es), if assigned.
- Coordinate with the Athletic Director on scheduling, transportation, eligibility, and league/MHSAA paperwork.
- Support athletes pursuing college recruitment, including communication with college coaches and recruiting platforms.
- Plan and host an end-of-season awards banquet and complete season evaluations.
- Respond to direction from the District Athletic Director and other school administrators.
- Model professional conduct in personal habits, language, dress, and interaction with student-athletes and the community.
