POSITION DESCRIPTION
Huron Valley Schools is hiring two Secondary Instrumental Band Teachers. These professionals will be responsible for the comprehensive development, leadership, and management of the secondary instrumental music program, which encompasses symphonic/wind ensemble bands and related ensembles for students in grades 6 through 12. This role may also involve direction, co-direction, or assistant direction of the Huron Valley Marching Band.
The successful candidates will be expected to cultivate musical growth, leadership, teamwork, discipline, and school spirit among students. A key responsibility is establishing a positive and inclusive learning environment for all.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience in high school band instruction and directing group music and performance experiences
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and integrate diverse students into music programs
- Strong collaborative skills for working with parents, students, faculty, and other professionals to deliver a well-rounded music program
- Familiarity with national standards for music education and the ability to seamlessly incorporate these standards into instruction
- Comprehensive knowledge of various music periods, genres, and styles
- Willingness and ability to lead multiple-day group tours, in various locations
- Inspirational Leadership: A positive and energetic leadership style with the ability to inspire school pride and engage the community.
- Commitment to Excellence: A deep passion for music education and student development, coupled with a commitment to excellence and inclusivity.
- Effective Classroom Management: Strong and proven skills in managing the classroom environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan and deliver instruction in alignment with state and district music standards.
- Teach instrumental techniques, music theory, musicianship, and performance skills.
- Select appropriate music literature for ensembles of varied ability levels.
- Organize and conduct concerts, festivals (including MSBOA events), auditions, and special performances throughout the school year.
- Potentially, direct and supervise the combined HVS marching band program, including rehearsals, performances, competitions, parades, and football games.
- Collaborate with middle school music programs to ensure growth and continuity.
- Develop rehearsal schedules and coordinate sectional instruction.
- Manage inventory, equipment, uniforms, music library, and band facilities.
- Prepare and oversee budgets, fundraising, and work closely with the booster organization, including attending and supporting Booster Club meetings and activities.
- Recruit and retain students for the instrumental music program.
- Maintain accurate records, grades, attendance, and performance documentation.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, staff, and the community.
- Supervise assistant directors, instructional staff, volunteers, and student leaders as needed.
- Ensure student safety and proper supervision during rehearsals, performances, and travel.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and required school activities.
- Support and encourage student leadership, responsibility, and positive citizenship.
- Maintain a consistent and reliable presence at the designated work site.
- Build and sustain a secure and safe working environment.
- Demonstrate the ability to handle and navigate stressful situations professionally.
- Meet the physical requirements of the position, which include, but are not limited to, walking, kneeling, sitting on/rising from the floor, bending, and lifting a minimum of 20 pounds.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree with Teacher Certificate
LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS: Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
